Emagic Sound diver pc
Emagic Sound diver pc
Anyone know where I might be able to pick this up? Nothing on ebay at the moment.
Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
Thanks stardust but I this is the mac osx version which I could potentially run on my ibook G4 but I believe it requires a logic dongle. I do not have logic.
Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
I just got my SY77 down from the loft and it sounds fantastic but, editing from the front panel is soooo tedious hence why it ended up in the loft in the first place. I also have an FS1R but that doesn't do micro tuning or have fully configurable algos. There is midiquest but It's not that great for my Yamaha gear unfortunately or there is an sy77 editor but it appears to be a bit buggy
Will I admit defeat and head on over to NI with my tail between my legs I wonder?

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
You definitely won't find a copy new for windows, unless you happen across one in the back room of some small music shop somewhere. They pulled their PC products when they announced Apple had purchased them. Used copies do show up on ebay on occasion, but I think that Logic 5.x Windows users lap up any available copies relatively quickly...
There was a beta download of Sounddiver Windows for a while which is the last known Windows version publicly available, but this still requires the retail CD to authenticate. I have this installed on my old machine still, but if I lose that install I am not quite sure where I archived the beta installer itself...
Incidentally I think the FSR1 came with a dedicated copy of Sounddiver? I know I have a few dedicated versions here for the various synths I own, can't say I've ever used them though as that's daft when the full retail is on hand.

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
Yes I have the OEM sounddiver version for fS1R but sadly there is not such thing for the SY77. Was there ever a version of logic that had sounddiver bundled, like the logic big box?
Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
Not to my knowledge, but I know far from everything!
I don't use it as much anymore because sadly the OSX version still lacks the integration that it had before (pre-OSX & windows). Also with a bit of effort you can construct environments that can do pretty much everything SD did, it's just unfortunate it takes so much work.

Maybe I'm a bit soft in the head, but the SY77 is just about my favorite synth to program from the front panel. In fact, I use sounddiver for many of my other synths, but not for the 77. Perhaps it's a bit slower, but I find that it keeps you from making changes that are too big -- a lot of the sy77's potential lies in very subtle changes to the parameters and with sound diver I have trouble restraining myself and change too much at a time.
But perhaps I should revisit the sounddiver adaptation to check if it has useful units for the envelope rates.

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
I once bought a version 2.x but that probably won't run under XP (?)
it's not messing around the usual suspective places, but must be under some pile of something here
cheers, Tom

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
Yes the FSIR is horrible you should get rid of it. ill recycle it for you.

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
In case anyone is interested:
Another FS1R editor
FSeqEdit & FS1R Controller - FSeqEdit is worth a look if you're interested in populating the Formant Sequences with something other than the stock sequences. (IE recommended for viewing the webpage)

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
thought you were just kidding
it's one of the few hardware boxes that I might still find tempting...
2nd hand prices on the rise, tho
cheers, Tom

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
Actually in that case I'm glad I got it right
Would have felt a right idiot if it was something else and I posted up a pic and all the extras.

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
Irrelevance,
You probably know it already, but there is this free editor here at yamaha synth. I have had an SY77 for ages (was my first synth), and I remember using this one for editing and storing patches, whenever I didn't feel like using the main panel (which is quite comprehensive and not really that hard to tweak). I haven't used it in a while, but if I'm remembering well, it'll do the job nicely!
Cheers,
T

Thanks for all the replies folks.
Yeh who needs sleek 1u rackmount 8op fm synth? Pain in the arse if you ask meNeutron wrote:Yes the FSIR is horrible you should get rid of it. ill recycle it for you.

I think this is the SY manager 2 from FM Alive. Yeh it's a bit long in the tooth now there is a version 3 which is pretty good but doesn't work well on my system.greenbluegold wrote:irrelevance wrote:I just got my SY77 down from the loft and it sounds fantastic but, editing from the front panel is soooo tedious hence why it ended up in the loft in the first place. /quote]

I take this as wise advice. The SY was my first FM synth and I packed it away once I got the FS1R which I always program via software. Hmm maybe editing from the front panel wont be so bad. It does mean I'm gonna have to fix this damn backlight though

Re: Emagic Sound diver pc
You can easily edit the SY77 in the Cubase MIDI Device manager. The SY77 and most other synthesizers are included in the import device section. This is covered in chapter 24 of the Cubase 5 manual.
