Irrelevance,
You probably know it already, but there is this free editor here at yamaha synth. I have had an SY77 for ages (was my first synth), and I remember using this one for editing and storing patches, whenever I didn't feel like using the main panel (which is quite comprehensive and not really that hard to tweak). I haven't used it in a while, but if I'm remembering well, it'll do the job nicely!
Cheers,

Thanks for all the replies folks.
Yeh who needs sleek 1u rackmount 8op fm synth? Pain in the arse if you ask meNeutron wrote:Yes the FSIR is horrible you should get rid of it. ill recycle it for you.

I think this is the SY manager 2 from FM Alive. Yeh it's a bit long in the tooth now there is a version 3 which is pretty good but doesn't work well on my system.greenbluegold wrote:irrelevance wrote:I just got my SY77 down from the loft and it sounds fantastic but, editing from the front panel is soooo tedious hence why it ended up in the loft in the first place. /quote]
Maybe I'm a bit soft in the head, but the SY77 is just about my favorite synth to program from the front panel. In fact, I use sounddiver for many of my other synths, but not for the 77. Perhaps it's a bit slower, but I find that it keeps you from making changes that are too big -- a lot of the sy77's potential lies in very subtle changes to the parameters and with sound diver I have trouble restraining myself and change too much at a time.
But perhaps I should revisit the sounddiver adaptation to check if it has useful units for the envelope rates.
I take this as wise advice. The SY was my first FM synth and I packed it away once I got the FS1R which I always program via software. Hmm maybe editing from the front panel wont be so bad. It does mean I'm gonna have to fix this damn backlight though

You can easily edit the SY77 in the Cubase MIDI Device manager. The SY77 and most other synthesizers are included in the import device section. This is covered in chapter 24 of the Cubase 5 manual.
