Return of the.. BSOD!!! :(
Hey guys.
A While ago my new computer suffered BSOD and random freezes. I tweaked it for some time until the bsod were no longer present.
when i'm talking about bsod's, i haven't tested it with cubase, only general winxp use.
now i got my new studio furniture, setup my whole gear and computer up and running, and suddenly the computer bsod's all over again. thsi time i've tested with cubase, scope, general winxp use... it happens even when not using cubase or the audio card.
My setup is:
P4 3.0 Ghz
Asus p4s800-deluxe
512 MB Ram
Western digital 120gb S-ATA drive
Winxp pro.
Tweaking done so far:
- latest drivers for all devices
- latest bios revision
- under bios: disabled everything not being used: hyperthreading, usb, lan, soundmax, serial ports, even cd-rom
- disabled unwanted services under winxp
- deleted unused fonts
- all the performance tweaks - graphics, static virtual memory file
- using ps2 mouse instead of the usb mouse
My speculations, and i need u to help me on this.. because these are mere speculations:
1. While trying to install a second harddrive, i accidently broke down one of the S-ATA connectors on the MB, so i had to connect my HD to the second one (there are 2, the one i ruined had some bent pins and some were broken altogether, not usable anymore) - could this cause some sort of problem?
2. I installed a second HD - i don't know perhaps it conflicts somehow with some other device?
3. MIDI issues - i've heard people talking about not using the creamware midi, why is that? my midi keyboard (Studiologic sl-161) doesnt send active-sensing or stuff like that.
4. Any thoughts??
PLEASE! if anyone can help me out! I've waited for many monthes to get my new furniture to fit all the gear and have everything working 100% , but now i can't use anything... please throw any ideas that come to mind and i will test them.
Thanks!

it is the regular blue screen.
each time the message is different.
i've had one time a message with the file name WINSCSI. something .. i can't recall
and several times win32k.sys i think..
What does that mean to u? the blue screen i guess is just showing some sort of memory conflict or software malfunctioning..
Also i'd like to mention that the Creamware card (Luna2) is sitting in PCI slot 3, and using irq 4 (not sharing with anything)

here is the screen that i got this morning.
computer was up and running for around an hour. SCOPE software was shut down.
just messed around with opening windows & such. then i re-enabled my 2nd hard-drive and continued messing around.
after 2 minutes this is what i got:
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC00000005,0xBF8519D7,0XF35FB27C,0x00000000)
*** win32k.sys - Address BF8519D7 base at BF800000, DateStamp 3b7de698
Beginning dump of physical memory.

Tried formatting & Reinstalling Win XP.
Only BSOD's!!
Mostly by the end of the Winxp installation.
Changed the Luna card to PCI 1. Still same.
TOOK IT OUT completely, tried format&install, still blue screen. (IRQ_LESS_OR_EQUAL) something like that.
What is going on... i am so upset about this.
speculations? the S-ata connector again? could this really be it??

Yes i am replacing my board on sunday...
i would want to upgrade it rather than just get a same... i've read about SiS chipsets being low quality.
Any suggestions regarding what would be a nice replacement board? i've been looking at the P4C800,P4P800 and P4P800 SE
also been trying to test the problem, so i evantually was able to install XP without the computer freezing or BSOD...
left it while leaving for work for 5 hours, and when i got back it was still working no blue screens. (note that creamware card is not installed now)
this is very random and weird error going on...

Well still haven't changed the board
but evantually was able to format my system partition (without blue screens).
installed a clean WinXP-PRO, ran the basic performance tweaks (without registry and services cleaning).
Tested the computer for freezes - left it idle for about 7 hours. no freeze. tried moving large directories around (copied the Windows directory 4 times simultaniously to a few other locations) - no freezes.
Installed the Luna card, tested some PCI slots, it was happiest in PCI 3 (not sharing any IRQ - IRQ4).
innstalled SCOPE 4.0 and drivers. left it idle. now it is up for around 4 hours - no freeze...
So perhaps i've solved the problem....
Things i have changed after formatting though:
Enabled ACPI (in bios only) , enabled HT in bios, switching from the PS2 mouse to USB mouse (could this be the problem?? i had a weird feeling about this).
I hope it will stay like this.
Tomorrow i will re-install Cubase SX 2.2
Will keep u updated...
