Certificate Of Authenticity-
it's the sticker with the installation codes on it, that authorizes the windows installation as valid and authentic(not bootleg).

Yes, be careful especially when it's coming from China. I bought a copy of XP a long time ago and it was fake. Looked totally real though. They're very good at making fakes...

yeah, buy from somebody in the USA or in your country, not China(for this kind of thing).
get an OEM version. there are tons of these out there for sale. Dell(and other brand) repair centers and builders buy a bunch of licenses and then M$ brings out a new os and makes those licenses worthless to many consumers. it's to your advantage, as long as you're reasonably careful.

No, the audio core isolation is a huge advantage.

for video games or other multimedia apps, but for my music making, it makes no difference at all. ASIO is still ASIO.

There is a common misconception that lower latency in Windows 10 audio ONLY is for WASAPI drivers. This is not true.
From the Cakewalk Blog:
Applications like SONAR that use kernel streaming or ASIO already communicate at a lower level that bypasses the Windows audio engine, so in theory the lower latency advancements in Windows 10 will not allow for lower latencies than previous versions unless you were using the Windows audio engine.
However, I asked Microsoft if there had been any changes to the Windows kernel (the lowest level in the audio stack, which can make or break low latency audio processing) that affect audio processing and received this response:
“Yes. There have been changes in the multimedia scheduler service and kernel components to minimize DPC spikes (particularly when in lowlatency mode).”
This is great news, because it could make a big difference to low-latency streaming apps like SONAR.

Virtual desktops are an important reason to use Windows 10. You can switch between them in an instant.
There is no good reason to use Windows 7 if Windows 10 works for you. There are many small improvements. If you use Windows 10 for any length of time, you quickly realize this. Having the ability to switch back to Windows 7 should you be one of the small minority of people who prefer Windows 7 within 60 days makes it a no-brainer. There is also a clean install in the setup if you want.
Many changes in Windows 10 are cosmetic or superficial but also there are many good and very important differences. I become aware of more of them every day.

Re: Microsoft NAMM Windows 10 Video
doubletalk.
it's all about the windows audio that has never been stable at low latencies, and even if it is now, what do i care when ASIO works and has worked for some time.
wanna know why they mentioned Sonar? because Sonar and m$ are in bed together, and Sonar has always promoted WDM drivers. the last thing Cakewalk wants you to use is ASIO, a format that their most bitter rival Steinberg developed.
it's a fact, i already have low latency. i don't need to update my os for that. there are many fine points to win10. i have seen it and it appears to work well. there is near ZERO need to change os from win7 or win8 to use it, though, at least from an audio standpoint. that does not mean that anyone shouldn't use it, or that the users of win10 are stupid. it just means that for any of them who are using the computer mainly for making music, they won't really gain anything. in fact, they'll lose hours upgrading for no gain. for those who like playing around with computers more than actually producing music, a chance to upgrade is the greatest thing ever. i understand that POTENTIALLY win10 is the greatest thing since sliced bread. that's fine. eventually there may be an actual need to use win10 because of new software that makes the old stuff not worth using. the funny thing is, computers do more work and more awesome stuff than they did 10 years ago, but about the same amount of work gets DONE....

Hmm,
I have my cards set on lowest latency possible and there are no issues...

Re: Microsoft NAMM Windows 10 Video
You say ASIO works But ASIO does not work when you push the boundaries. We all know it has limits so anything that makes it better is a good thing.
If you don't push the boundaries, ASIO is fine. I push the boundaries. A lot of people do. Given that Windows 10 is free, it would be idiotic not to try it on a new computer.

Re: Microsoft NAMM Windows 10 Video
How exactly is Windows 10 making the ASIO any better? It's making the WMD drivers better from what I've read, nothing to do with ASIO.braincell wrote:You say ASIO works But ASIO does not work when you push the boundaries. We all know it has limits so anything that makes it better is a good thing.
Re: Microsoft NAMM Windows 10 Video
That is not true. What you read is wrong okay? read my previous post. Microsoft says there have been changes in the multimedia scheduler service and kernel components to minimize DPC spikes (particularly when in lowlatency mode).

Re: Microsoft NAMM Windows 10 Video
Everyone should use whatever works for them the best. I never have more than around 10 tracks anyhow. So no issues here.

Well then that is fine for you. It's not just about how many tracks you use but effects and synthesizers.

Re: Microsoft NAMM Windows 10 Video
Just stick with analog if you have the ke$h. No delays. In digital domain, there will always be some delays...
