It's very stable for me. If it crashes, it's because your drivers aren't right for Windows 10 but most people don't have this issue. It's only free until July 29 2016 so you should get it and if you don't like it, you can uninstall it and install it again later. If you install if before the deadline and authorize it, you can always install it again if it is on the same computer. There is an ISO download you can burn to a DVD but I installed it from the ISO without burning it to a DVD.

Audio Core Optimisation - it will now be possible to define and isolate all the core audio processing to a single core, meaning no other processes will be able to interrupt the stream.

My drivers may me faulty, yes. It is a brand new laptop so they're probably still working on them. But it did take a memory dump on me

since you don't care about heavy internet use, go with win7. the only real advantage to win10 is extra security for cloud-based apps and complete touch-screen support built into the os(you won't need a 3rd party app for newer touch screen features). win8 is only a way to move you into win10, the next goal for m$.

win10 is very nice. it just isn't any help to you, and depending on the app, it might get in your way. for example, many users haven't been able to get wave drivers working in win10, although ASIO is fine.

for stability, it doesn't matter.
for the rest of the important point for you, Nestor, it probably doesn't matter, although win7 will feel pretty much the same as XP did, as far as being familiar with the os's gui(start menu, searches, program list, etc).

Thank you Gary!

I am going Win 7 64 bits. Which one nevertheless? Is there any important issue for us, getting a normal copy versus "ultimate", which I guess, must be more expensive too...

Pro has important networking protocols, if you plan to network the computer. Home will network fine, but it's much more of a hassle. otherwise, it doesn't matter. home is fine.

I have the Ultimate. Only Ultimate supports more than 16GB of RAM I think (but don't quote me, just ask Gary).

I went for Pro which is between Home and Ultimate price-wise and gives you all the options you'd need I believe.

Wait, I just checked. Professional will support up to 192GB RAM. I'd go with that one.

Yes, this is it, it will be the best option, miss nothing and have all these little extras you may need just in case. Cheers, suggestion taken :P :) I'm gong PRO

I also like the fact that you can switch the XP mode, this is what I have read...

Yeah sure! :D I wish I could afford such a PC.

Well, I went through the entire list of windows 7 available, and read every bit about the Professional one, and it is perfect. It has also a way to backup through network, which is interesting for me.

The Starter version is a joke!

on ebay you can get a copy originally intended for new Dell or other manufacturers' computers for cheap. just make sure that it comes with the COA, and that you check the seller's feedback to protect against scams.
