Propellerhead announced "Record"
Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
Rubbishing Propellerheads is a bit OTT. They're responsible for their fair share of innovations & maybe they've been concentrating too much on Reason, but they deserve some credit for Rebirth, Recycle & Rewire. Even Reason is a pretty damn cool bit of software, but like most native applications it doesn't compare well to hardware solutions like Scope.
Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
neither to many vst...
and frankly, i am not spitting on Reason for the pleasure or as a gimmick from a monomaniac, it is just that it is very disapointing in comparison to many other thing that offer less in the package in terms of visual candy, but with a sound that deserves to be called "sound".

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
why don't you just admit the fact that you're not explicitly in the target group of xite users, and that's it?braincell wrote:The SC system with or without the Xite-1 does not have decent drum sequencing. The drum machines in SC are an afterthought, pathetic and a total joke. This is important to many electronic musicians.
Reason is easy to use. The GUI is innovative. The exact opposite is true of the SC system. The Xite makes no difference. They didn't work on the sorely tedious tiny knobs and patch cables and tiny modules.
it's no shame to dislike the product (or even _any_ product) and everything that surrounds it, if they don't make it they way you want it to be,
as it is no shame to like some piece of software even if it is dissed more or less by others, if it fits _your_ way of making music.

so maybe we just watch out for Record and see what it is capable of - when it's there.

Dump the tracks into your host of choice? This would be a whole lot easier if SC had the foresight to implement ReWire into SC. This won't happen since SC wears blinders. They don't understand how electronic computer musicians operate in the real world. They are in their bubble.siriusbliss wrote:
SC already has tracking capability built into STS (sort of - just expand the streaming capability), so use it and then dump the tracks into your host-of-choice, yes? But again, I'm already tracking in Samplitude, so I'm satisfied.

I have said this before but I wish Propellerheads made the software for SC hardware. I know people will disagree with me about this. If you do, you are wrong. I agree the SC sounds better. I like the Minimax and the Flexor modules. The other synthesizers in the SC which come with the basic synth package are not so good. They make you pay extra to get great synthesizers. The mixingboard is exceptionally high quality for punchy low frequency sounds but it muffles high frequency sounds. That is not acceptable.Shroomz~> wrote:Rubbishing Propellerheads is a bit OTT. I'll give the heads that much - but IMO perhaps they are stretching out their apparent innovation a bit too much.Shroomz~> wrote:Rubbishing Propellerheads is a bit OTT. To jump into the soup of cheaper hosts such as Reaper, Magix Music Maker, etc. in this economic environment just seems strange to me.

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
The way I see it, this app is an answer to the old complaint that reason can't record audio, and seems to be targeted at current Reason users. Instead of releasing a Reason 5.0 "with audio", the "Record" app will wrap itself around Reason, effectively providing audio capabilities while maintaining the workflow and current synths and fx.
As such, it's not surprising that vst hosting is out of the picture - seems like the Propellerheads want to keep it all self contained, as usual. I think that it is a bit overpriced, especially if you don't own Reason already, but since I'm not in their target group, my opinion doesn't matter

Not all of us are purely electronic musicians, and SC is not solely in the EM market.braincell wrote:Dump the tracks into your host of choice? SC is great for the 'old-school' electronic musicians as well as plenty of other folks doing tracking, FOH, post-production, film-scoring, etc.
I do think it would be great if the heads (and others) would grab the SDK and develop something for Scope. The more the merrier IMO.

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
I just noticed the Record price will be 149 USD (list).
Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
...for reason owners, that is.braincell wrote:I just noticed the Record price will be 149 USD (list).
"Record is currently in beta, and will be available for purchase through your favorite Propellerhead dealer worldwide on September 9, 2009 at a suggested retail price of $299 USD / €299 EUR."
and
"Record for Reason Owners
Owners of Reason will be able to purchase Record at a discount. The suggested retail price for Record for Reason Owners is $149 USD / €129 EUR."
but if you already use reason, that's your price

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
I'm a Reason owner but version 2. It doesn't matter. I don't think I will be getting this unless the mixer is totally amazing. Any word on that?
Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
there was no hint what version of reason qualifies for the "crossgrade".braincell wrote:I'm a Reason owner but version 2. It doesn't matter. I don't think I will be getting this unless the mixer is totally amazing. Any word on that?
for the mixer, I think you should put yourself on the list of beta testers and see if it is amazing or even totally amazing

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
I am but we'll see how long it takes.
Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
it seems like a beta testers lottery...
ah, and here from the FAQ:
Q: Will Reason 1.0, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 work with Record?
A: To use Record + Reason together you do need Reason version 4. However, the Record for Reason Owners package will not only give you Record at a discount - it also upgrades your Reason 1.0, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 license to Reason version 4 for use with Record.
well, that's something.
still the missing VST support does somehow bothers me...

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
I stayed with version 2 because version 3 didn't seem like it was worth the upgrade price. I have no idea what version 4 is like.

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
I'm downloading the beta now.
Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
Looks like they changed the beta policy. I'm going to try some mastering tonight:
Dear beta tester,
You have now received an on-line license which allows you to run Record with Internet Verification during the beta testing period. Internet Verfification gives you full access to Record. This means you can open files and export audio.
Your license is already registered on your user account, so all you need to do is launch Record, select "Run with Internet Verification", and verify with your Propellerhead user name and password.

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
um... that means you can't run in on a machine without internet access right now?
well then... it's a beta anyway, so I'm curious what they came up with. keep us informed

Re: Propellerhead announced "Record"
I tried mastering with this. The saxophone sounded better but the piano sounded worse. I think it might be optimized for lead guitar. I'm going back to Cubase 5.
