cracks and clicks
Hi everybody!
After months of troubles i finally built a new system, everything is fine exept of several clicks and crackling noises while using my sequencers via asio (ableton and sam10 master). also sibelius won´t let me use my scope asio.
when playing back one track in sam10 i get some lost asio buffer messages.
when i just use scope there are no issues.
My system is
dual core 4500
gigabyte ds3r
kingston 2 GB ram
some ati 256 gpu
2 pulsar 2
winxpsp2
#
any help would be highly appreciated

thx for your quick reply
i wrote an answer before but in that very moment my computer decided to crash with a bluescreen DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
i tried every asio driver on every ulli setting available at 44.1 kHZ, but it did not seem to make any difference.
i checked irq sharing, one was alone at irq20, the other pulsarwas at 18 together with usb intel ich9 usb universal host controller...
i also disabled raid
right now i took out one of my pulsar, so the one left is on irq 20, not sharing with other devices.
I have to point out that i started the system with an asus p5k mainboard which was terrible and showed crackling all the time even with the win med-player via internal sound-card. As i read that there were several people with the same problems with that board i returned it and took the gigabyte instead.
So maybe there are some problems with old, left asus drivers.
Anyway, the media-player does not crackle anymore
, at least something good.
I´m running an IDE-hard-disk, not SATA
Oh, another thing
i started month ago upgrading my old AMD 2000+, asus a7nxblabla system which 2 pulsars which was running great without problems. After i changed the chassis, power unit and gpu (it was way too load) troubles started. I thought it was
1. one of the pulsars (i replaced it)
2. the cpu (replaced)
3. the mainboard (that was the point where i decided to start things from scratch ....new gear, format c and so on )
but , well, things didn´t turn out to well
...any suggestions?

right now it's happening with ableton live 7, samplitude 10 and not to mention sibelius 5 which won't even accept the scope asio driver.
i think the bluescreen may be caused by fiddling around with another driver (asio4all for the internal sound-card)
but the both scopes work properly as long as there is no sequencer involved.
when i'm running live or sam with a different driver it's the same or even worse
and i'm not running dozens of vsti's, just one sampler or playing back a wave file

you need to disable that usb controller. you should be recording to another separate hard drive. is the drive you are recording to on the same ide channel as the cd/dvd? if so, the ide channel may have gotten set to pio mode......
also, what do you have running in the backround that might be stealing cpu cycles? any antivirus, system restore, virii, spyware?

i have my ide rive and the dvd-drive running on one (the only one ) ide channel.
crackling does appear while playing back or playing vstis.
i had one single pulsar runnung on a non-shared irq - no difference
right now there is no anti-virus, system restore or so... program running in the background.
what do you mean by "the ide channel may have gotten set to pio mode......" and how can i change it ?
tnank you

thanx for the replies
ide-matter: in the device manger the primary ide-channel is set to "dma-if available", in the tab below is (it´s german, i´ll try to translate) not applicable (nicht anwendbar)
garyb: can i simply change the disk, copy my os on it or is there any special procedure ? ( i heard about special commands or changing it with the help of a linux live-cd) Hints are welcome
that ati problem sounds interesting, but does it give you "lost asio buffers" as samplitude tells me when playing back one wave track?
the ati has one seperate audio device (ati function-driver hd-compliant blabla) installed. the card is an ati radeon hd 3450. any experiences with that one?
i just tried disabling the onboard device, no difference

good point
how can the power unit affect "lost asio buffers" or how can it keep sibelius from working with the scope-asio-driver.
In my old setup it has been working. with the same power unit (Xilence 420 W).
But i remeber when it tried switching from Athlon2000 to 3000 i had some bad dropouts and crashes, no bluescreen but simply bump, crash, restart. It vanished when i got back to 2000. So i thought it might have been the cpu or the mainboard.
to stardust: the problem with that is: there has not been a before.
the xp is all new and so is the rest
and please remember: i have those clicks as soon as i use the sequencer, independent which driver i´m using, even with asio4all or the wave drivers.
i have no problems with scope standalone or with media-player via internal sound-card
Thanx

stardust thanks
i have already tried wave drivers, no difference
i already had only one pulsar running, inserted in a pci-slot that was not sharing irq with any other devices, unfortunately no difference
concerning the gpu: should i try to lower the rate in the pci-e bios setting? right now it´s at 100MHz (or so..i´m not too familiar with this stuff)
