sonolive wrote: that is what i have understood with my agma rack !!! (pcmcia to 2 PCI) even if sometimes ... and i don't really know why it works ...
i mean , for sur i have to power up the magma rack before launching XP ... that is something obliged !
but, it is SOMETIMES possible to unplug the rack, and replug it andit works !!!
cardbus is a different thing, I think. cb is designed for hot(un)plug, so I'm not overly surprised :)

but since the procedure does not work constantly, your better off using it the way you described.
about the driver for magma : i have never tried without ... son i don't know if it xorks ... but it should work under MAC OSX as far as i know (never tried tho)
ah yes, you have a cardbus interface under windows. thats one of the cases a driver is required :)
on MacOS 9.x and X they say it's not necessary (but maybe the driver is just built in already).
smething else, for magma rack ... the cipset of he PCMCIA is very very important ... they say it is better with TI and i have experimeted that it is right !!!
I heard the same thing when it comes to firewire :)
TI is said to have the most stable and recommended chips here, too, so that makes sense to me.

well, it may be not designed for that purpose. I assume the same problem would occur with digidesign cards, but not if all cards were a different kind of pci device.

here i am ...

1) yes, you have to switch on the box before windows openning... and yes, no driver is needed (as explained in the technical document). should you have ab error (due to pci bandwidth) and you will have to switch off then on the box when starting again windows. Otherwise the scope board was not recognized...

2) I have not tried with another kind of pci boards because i have no PCI stuff here !

I am wondering if the stdm cables could take the blame for that ... I mean, are UAD or powercore boards linked in the same way ? The fact that 2 devices behave like one sole can be the key to this problem... Thus this box cannot handle this specific feature...

UAD and powercore have no other connection than pci. nevertheless they can act as a "group of four" (max). digidesign has afaik a cable like stdm, it just has more connectors (7, afaik).

what is the power supply that comes with the box rated at? Any idea how many amps?
I think I remember reading that the scope cards are pretty power hungry..

Could it be that they are not getting enough power and that is why only one card is being seen?

that 'group' will most likely not be able to spread a single Task over several boards.
The DSP boards are clock synced at the sample level, while the VST boards are buffer synced by software.

UAD and Powercore users have had the same problem with this box so it is not the S/TDM's cable at fault. If anything, the S/TDM cable should help the situation since it is off-loading the burden from the PCI bus. To be frank, if this box really was designed for the pro audio market, the manufacturer has failed.

it would be interesting to know if one could run a single card of each type without problems. it would be not totally useless, then, i.e. for small setups.
To be frank, if this box really was designed for the pro audio market, the manufacturer has failed.
as the price tag suggests, it wasn't mainly designed for that purpose, and since I didn't read something like "we have a compatibility list for manufacturer x, y, and z, and yes, we tested it" there probably haven't been any tests other than from those people who bought it :)

again, no problem with one sole board ! Except if you load too much reverbs for example (the pci overflow message appear faster than when the board is installed into the PC. You are right though ... for a small set up (several computers for example), this box can do the job...

yes, we have your experience with a single scope card. my question goes a bit further, asking whether a scope, an uad and a powercore card for instance could run together in this box. I know you don't have those other cards...
the only statement on uad cards is from the shop page and just says that uad is supported, but not their quantity.
