righty right, it's an antic piece of unix crap, build by a company called 'NEXT'
the 'originl' Mac Finder was sacked with OSX afaik...

overpriced ?
that Bassbone DI/Pre thingy on my desk costed me 269 and it's parts aren't even worth twenty Euros :P
(but it's got those screws on the bottom the ASBs should have got...)

 you b*strd :-D
1 (great hardware) + 1 (great OS software) = 1 , that's what makes it so good :-D

Also, lots of Apple inventions (bluetooth etc.) are the result of reseach which should be payed for.
Most important tho is that an Apple isn't more expensive than a pc, if you consider the time it keeps it's value (function) and and the time you don't loose... :-D

 no doubt.
the only thing i don't like is the same thing that keeps the value up and a scope card out of it, the elitist attitude.

at least there is an(y) attitude...
:-D

The colored parts are correct and even support the attitude :-D
(- don't forget the " + " symbol...there's the real secret if you ask me: you can blame the one who's responsible for the combination).

Not sure about every single word Gary :-D
then you said:
i said that?

sorry gary, thought the (mild) irony was included in the smilie :-D
In fact you said exactly that only without the word 'not'.
Just to clarify :-)

Wow I didn't know that (I'm not an OS9 afficionado by any means). It's still crap though :P The way it deals with nested folders is absolutely retarded and illogical. There's quite a few alternative file managers for the Mac, I am quite surprised that Apple hasn't bought one yet.

yeah Vista.
So here is my plan for the future:
since my DAW is offline, I first must buy a card to get online. yep.
And, of course, I need a provider. well, bitter pill.
Bang!
Then I go to some place where I can download a latest virus scanner. ok.
Then I open my box and put in the card. yeah.
Then I install the virus scanner. must be.
Then I pick up my DAW and bring it to the phone, only two rooms further. well then.
Then I dial up for the internet. waiting...
Then I look up for the latest viruses. more waiting...
Then, yeah, then I can activate my vista. jipee!
Then I can disconnect. Ha.
Then I can deinstall the virus scanner. no hassle while recording.
Then I bring back my DAW. remember? 2 rooms only.
Then I remove the card. pfff.
(should I add here then I pray that my DAW still works?...)
Uff!
Oh, should I mention that my DAW is built in?
It's in the living room, so it's invisible, except you know what to open.

After something like a month or so, vista comes up with a reminder, something like could not connect with activation server. or so.
And then again:
Bang!
then, then, then. etc.
Uff!

No, I prefer the easy solution:
Hasta la vista!

did the take out the phone activation method? that would have been another possibility for you...
No, I prefer the easy solution:
Hasta la vista!
nevertheless, I agree with you :)

yes, no phone AFAIK. For corporate it is recommended to have a
server running, so the workstations can activate themselves in house.
No more volume license also.
The point is this permanent activating thing.
With phone?
No, offline DAW's are somehow not in their view.

well, I was curious and found a whitepaper from microsoft saying that there is an option via telephone, which will be available in case no internet connection is detected (whatever qualifies for an internet connection or no was not revealed, though).
if a connection was found, bang. (to say it with your words :) )

what's the best alternative file browser for mac? I too hate the frickin' finder. Even windows explorer beats that (although on my pc at home I use the xplorer2 browser in addition to windows explorer)

Macs are nice. I've always felt OSX to feel sluggish compared to XP though (maybe it's to do with all the animated bullshit in OSX that there isn't a simple preference for to switch off).

Oh and what about mouse acceleration? I HATE that but it seems impossible to turn off. Luckily I use Wacoms mostly....
