Kontakt is my choice and will be ever I think.
It can´t record so it is no real sampler, sure. But once you have your samples inclu. AKAI and all other loaded, you have a great sample based Synthesizer in your armoury.

So, how's the translation going on? Could you get the samples in the format you want? I hope so, tell us something.

My Emu sampler does a better job than this weak product. Maybe this is to get you to buy the full pro version. Well then they should have had a friendlier customer service rep. then, as I will never spend another penny on their products, ever. I will simply purchase whatever my fellow forum members suggest. If Tascam GVI sucks ( I can upgrade 4 50 USD )I assure you I will go with Kontackt as it has a wide support group, and there again Tascam has insulted me before by saying your computer isn't set up right?? I told them the same thing, your customer support isn't set up right. So they can all suck my ass.
Excuse me for getting a trifle excited, but try another product. They sell you the Giga Translator just to tease you into buying a larger uneeded program. Since this is all they sell, I feel sorry for their weak company, as they must have little or no business, as I have never recieved the promised CD either. I am confident that STS can translate better than this app.

Hi Jimmy, well, no problem, I understand your frustration, I would be bothered too of course, if I were at your place.

Man, let’s pass to a new page and write a new book that will give you great joy. Let me give you a sound and friendly advice:

GET KONTAKT 2 NOW: absolutely, unquestionably, get Kontakt 2 and start a new world of sound. It is not only a sample player, it is so much more you’ll be amazed at what you can do with it. Don’t suffer anymore.

You cannot ask for more, because Kontakt 2 is:

Cheap for what it does

Gives you tremendous freedom of manipulation of samples

A great number of quality effects

There exist a very large number of users that can give you a hand, at any time, right now! There are many forums, tips, tricks, tutorials, books.

It sounds terrific!

It is easy to build new instruments and get them to where you want

It is quite light in recourses compared with its competition

You can do very unusual things in the way instruments mix together

It is 100% stable! It never ever hangs your PC or refuses to load a sample or kit

It gets all important and professional samples formats available on the market

It is fast to do anything with it, and it loads your instruments fast too

The interface is intelligent, clear and pleasant

Well, you see, there is everything on it, you don’t need to open third party applications or a second host along with your DSP system, and there is no need. Everything can be handled in VST or whatever is your main host, without switching all the time in between. I will go as far as saying that if you were to chose only “one” way to handle all your samples in “all” your projects, that should absolutely be Kontakt 2, period.

Get it, suffer the expense, but enjoy for the rest of your life... no need to look back!

Well let's see how my cheap GVI does as an upgrade for GS3 to Gigastudio 3 VST. If I so much as get the slightest problem, I will ,....oh well. I will try Kontackt by NI. They have no problem upgrading their stuff 4 their customers. Unlike the snobby ass Tascam, or Chickenshit software people. I must be turning European or something. Everything I like is German these days. Next thing you know I'll be playing my accordian again and singing,,, Oh ja,..das ist der Lichtensteinen polka mein schatz. Sorry 'bout that chief.

I would use Extreme Sample translator. It allows conversion of multiple formats. Only have to be carefull when converting gig files to STS. if have dimensions you will have double sounds, (relase and note on sound at time for example).
Cdxtract don´t allow convert more then 255 kegroups, what is a great bug. They got confused with the 255 mutegroups.
The best way I have found to get STS from gigs is:
Take Halion, import gig. Then take the neede samples folder (i.e note on) and save as a new halion "program with samples".
Then take Extreme Sample translator and convert to where you like, STS or any other.

Wow,..We sure come up with quality workarounds here don't we. I always wanted to try seperated, uneeded layers in Giga 3's bloated samples, and send then to STS, but GS3 has been so stable live, that I have left it alone. I only need 4 velocity layers for a good upright piano from Vintaudio, and only need those ridiculously large Post pianos for classical which I just don't need my DAW to do. When I play classical and solo piano gigs in Las Vegas, they usually have excellant Steinways, and Bosendorfers with the extra low keys in most hotel/casinos. There is nothing better to me than the real thing. Even though new large libraies have become very good if you use a quality controller such as the Oberheim MC3000, but the pressure and recoil of superior workmanship in the hammers, and the buzz and resonance that the soundboard have , is unreplaceable. I actually love to freak people out with John Cage style FX, and Keith Emersons Plectron style as on his Take A Pebble song, and there is no way any Sampler can do that.

And That's The Facts Jack,

Jimmy V.

I do appreciate your reply, and advice on the extreme sample converter, and the replies for Kontackt. I am watching closely.
