Still, it does look amazing... let's see if it ever gets released and how much it costs
Fully programmable computer keyboard
not at all - a compagny from Cologne (alphakey) produced and sold such stuff even before 1990On 2005-11-04 01:05, samplaire wrote:
Very innovative concept!
it wasn't rendered as cute, tho - and the LCDs were somewhat humble, but the same concept.
Well, not exactly the same - it wasn't yet obvious that mankind is on it's way into legasteny and to be flooded with obscure symbols...
but the site is pretty cool
cheers, Tom

well.. the moment I saw this, I remembered those Avid video editor keyboards that had all the Avid shortcuts printed on the keyboard.

Funny thing was, although the keys were custom printed.. you'd have to take the thing apart if you created a custom key layout.
Back the LCD backed keys.. it's a cool concept, but only problem I see is that keys tend to stay consistant.. I mean, that's the whole point isn't it? You may take some time initially to set things up, but once it's set up, it stays. I think that's the whole point of assigning function to space. I mean, nobody looks at what's printed on the keyboard after you learn it right?
On the other hand, this keyboard would be ideal for situations where a user doesn't have the time to learn the function space relationship.. like an interactive booth with a non standard interface.. (how about one of those internet booths)
Otherwise, it's just another cool toy to add to my gadgetry.. If I ever run a studio that's open to public, I'd get one of these and place right were a potential client may see it. It will surely add to the authenticity and also the "vibe". I think workspace interior is important because it directly affects creative flow.
So, when do I get to fool around with one of these probably too expensive toys? lol

This place have some of the coolest looking keyboards for PC & mac that i've seen. The website doesn't 'look' like much, but check out some of the keyboards !! Especially the one's with touchpads & the one with a 55mm trackball to the RHS !!!! Prices are from below $100 to around $300

Yes, would be nice to program your keyboard for your own demands and use self created icons to describe them.
But I think about getting one of this kind of keyboards, though.
They look simply cool and would bring a scientic touch to my live music enviroment and home studio, too.

Definitely one of those things I would not buy without trying it first. By the way, the fentek site has a mirrored keyboard. I have always thought, that it was stupid to have the "number keys" at the same side as the mouse - it puts the mouse too far away in an uncomfortable/unhealthy position. For the same reason, I very often use my left hand for my mouse.
One thing about the Fentec site is variety & a nice selection on offer there is. I've never been one for a 'do-it-all-in-one' solution & would rather buy 3 differently styled keyboards (for functional reasons) to run 3 different systems, than one 'do-it-all' programmable affair. That's just a personal opinion though & can be discounted as ill-informed in terms of ergonomics & interface design.
