And I think I'm getting the hang of the "melody" versus "arpeggio" thing. Great harmonizing workout I think. It's back to the classical compo days. Or perhaps I've just naturally taken a classical approach to the harmonizing because there were only 4 voices to play with. (pure chords with sustaings here and there)
hummel bluesynth for bass,
juno for pads (not too good)
hummel bluesynth for lead1
hummel bluesynth for lead2
hummel bluesynth for pluck-ish sounds
Plus 1 stereo delay on the stm1632.
pretty much maxed out my card.
So there's only 4 parts that mainly move. Just enough to implement 4tone chords.. It's good excercise I think, trying to squeeze every bit of harmony from 4 mono synths.
Euro Dance part 2
Hi Ken,
I appreciate that both of the tracks are "study" tracks and you seem to have your head down, beavering away at the style.
I thought that their were considerable differences.
Study 1 is a little bit clinical and, to me, more MOR pop based. At 1.37 - 2:03 it sounds more trance like and then 2.03 to 2.30 it slips back to MOR.
Study 2 was much more trance-like. From the beginning, the drum track and opening synth tell you that this is a trance track. It's more "formulaic", and I say that in a positive sense, with recognisable trance progressions, arpeggios, better patches etc.
I think that study 2 was the better of the two.
I've also seen that you're on a roll so I guess I'll download "study 3" next.
I'm going to be looking into studying trance soon too, 'cos I've had an idea (oh no), so anything that you want to send this way will be gratefully received
Perhaps you and Andreas could do a workshop?

hearing an analysis is always nice. While you're at it, be sure to check out my brand new KS-8080 patch for ModIII. It's a MUST if you want to do trance. 2 of these, 4x4 kicks, bass, an arpeggiator.. you're ready to go.

Yes Ken, this is Euro-Trance.
I heard your track few times and compared it with a factory demo track from my
CS1x, I can hear no difference in the style, both tracks can run beside on a party.
The Yamaha track is in General Midi mostly, I can post it to you when you like. Maybe this helps your study.

Hi Ken,
Great stuff. Personally I think it's the drum track that lets it down a little. Merely an observation, but for me, and I'm no expert, a bit of depth is needed. What do you think? May be a half speed clap would accentuate the synth rhythms, if that makes any sense.
I'm staying tuned to hear more.
