At my work we need to connect our TC Electronic S6000 unit with our Mac based systems. The audio connections are made already but we need to automate the S6k from within ProTools and it is possible with SMPTE signal, only. Can you recommend any USB MIDI interface with SMPTE to such work? MOTU (MIDI Expres, Micro Express), Emagic (Unitor8) or.... ?

Do you really need SMPTE to automate the TC ?
I doubt that. Don't you just use midi ?
Could be i am wrong but that is rare :smile:

I have to check it and update my knowledge. Perhaps Jupiter is right; have to dig the manual (actually I was told it is this way so even didn't try the manual).

Either way, if i had a Protools system (actually i had but that is besides the point) i would use the Digidesign midi interface.
Not sure if it has SMPTE though.

If you're going to send SMPTE from Protools -> S6000 you have two choices:

1/ A Digidesign Sync I/O (USD can be used for Mix systems)

2/ A MTC->SMPTE converter combined with a midi interface. (Like Rosendahl MIF-3)

Here's a list of the midi interfaces approved for PT6 on OSX:
Digidesign MIDI I/O
Emagic AMT8, MT4
Roland UM4, UM2
