Thanx to all those who gave ideas, we proudly present the rules for the January Contest.

Game Rules:
* The contest is divided into Mod I, and Mod II+III categories. Please state clearly in your entry post, whether it is a Mod I entry, or a Mod II+III entry.

* ONLY Modular can be used as soundsource within SFP, people can ALSO use raw audio tracks, but they must PASS THROUGH a Modular patch, and no dry signal is to be heard.

* ONLY TWO different Module patches may be used, unlimited use of presets within the patch though. Each patch must be able to load on 6 DSP's maximum per voice.

* All free and commercial fx/mixer may be used, but remember that audio must at least run through a modular patch at the least.

Submitting:
* All patches used must be submitted to the Modular forum. (details below)

* Please keep your song within reasonable time limits (no more than 5 minutes, 3 or 4 would be better, but hey, sometimes you NEED more time )

* All entries due 10th of January 2003.

* Entries should use the format "Jan-2003-Mod version-tunename" as topic name, for both tune and modular patch, just to make things easier. Also, when you post the tune, please put a link to the patch somewhere in your post, and vice versa. Makes viewing the entries much easier.

Voting:
* Voting will begin 10th of January 2003.

* Vote for a winner for ModI contest, and a winner for ModII+III contest. So, a winner for each.

* Send the votes as private message to kensuguro. (not e-mail)

Ok, so these are the rules. When things are vague, just remember that we're all in it for the fun. Nevermind the details. Just make sure you're using Mod down to its bones, and you'll be fine. Don't get too uptight about the rules. We do, however, encourage you to try the ModI system. It's the free one, so it really brings out the "little guy beats the big guy" spirit.

I've also put together a resource page for those who need info on getting started with ModI (thanx to Alfonso). And also with minimal links to modular study material.

So, good luck with the composition. Don't forget it's Christmas and New Year's though. Make sure you spend enough time with your family!

Great idea for a contest - I'm sure this'll generate some interesting patches and interesting music.

All the Mod 1 patches that I've been able to find (including the original CW factory patches) are available for download from the Patches page on my site, and, as is mentioned in the link above, you'll find all the M1 modules on the Downloads page.

Good luck !

Have we to absolutely build up new patches? Or can we just work with those already made? This is important to know. If I have to learn Modular in 20 days, I’m dead, it would be impossible! I never went deep into it, never had the time to do so, despite the fact I absolutely want to… So, what’s up then? Cheers...

The only restriction is to use just two patches. Just choose two and off you go !

Notice that I changed the naming scheme to "Jan-2003-Mod version-tunename".
Ex:
In the Music forum:
Subject: Jan-2003-ModIII-My_torn_liver
File: Jan-2003-ModIII-My_torn_liver.mp3

In the Modular forum:
Subject: Jan-2003-ModIII-My_torn_liver
File: Jan-2003-ModIII-My_torn_liver.zip
containing 2 patches, any presets, and txt documentation.

I'm very sorry this is all very confusing. It'll work out int he end.

Seems like the deadline has already passed? (hard to tell cuz of timezones) Anyway, I'll just announce that either the deadline's passed, or it's about it. Would people please choose a winning tune from each of the categories: mod1, mod2, and mod3. Not too many tunes to choose from... but oh well. People are busy so..

Please mail the votes to me. Not PM, but e-mail please.

Just checked. Still some more time I guess.. we'll still be recieving any last minute entries, so keep them coming if you've got something under your sleeves!
