Hi, I'm new to this forum /and/ I'm a new user of a Luna II. So unlike most members of this forum I really don't have much experience. Please excuse me if I'm asking something that has been discussed before.
Here's the problem:
I am using Gigastudio160 alongside Cubase VST 5.1 in Windows 98. GS's audio is routed directly into ASIO and output/recorded by Cubase. (I hope I'm saying this correctly) This works nicely, but just with the latency set high. When I tell ULLI to use a lower latency, I suddenly get click noises in my Gigastudio sound. And when the latency is set too low (i.e. lowest option), it doesn't work at all.
I'm concerned about the clicks in the ~7ms range. Gigastudio normally doesn't produce clicks. So what's causing them? Do I /have/ to select a latency high enough to avoid them? Any way of optimizing Win98 perhaps? My system: Athlon 1.4GHz, A7V, 512MB, 2x60GB HD @ 7200rpm, ATI Radeon video and, of course, brand new Luna II.
Any comments would be appreciated very much!! Best regards,
Jens

I would first switch mobo... A7V is the worst mobo you can have for a DAW, specialy if you need lots of data. Giga, streaming samples over pci bus to cw card, sending back to asio on pci bus, sending it back to the card to monitor, that alot of data traveling onto pci bus. And A7V is known for being very very bad at this. I had one, never was able to make it work correctly for 1 year. tried everything, from new hd, to new mem, etc... Throw the mobo by the window and get something else.

Also, how many gsif channels you're using? How many asio? Also, are your .gig on a separate drive? If they are on system drive, could also be the cause... How many voices? If you have 160 voices, .gig on C: drive, don't expect better than this. 7ms is pretty good in those conditions!

Seriously, put .gig onto a separate drive, change mobo, add memory, and once it is done, don't expect to be able to record many audio tracks at the same times... Giga is a big big resource hog... great, but a resources hog nevertheless... That why most giga users have a dedicated PC for giga...

Thank you for your reply! I wasn't aware that the A7V is bad for audio. Changing boards is probably one of the next things I'll try.
I'm using just one gsif channel (left+right). Same for ASIO, I suppose. Very basic setup. Otherwise the machine is pretty optimized for giga, the all gig's on a separate drive.
Under normal circumstances I get 160 voices out of GS with no clicks, also with Cubase running. I record only one track at a time and don't even playback any other audio tracks at the same time. So I work in a pretty modest way in terms of resources - at least at the moment
The clicking noises appear also at a low polyphony, when the CPU is asleep for the most part. May be some fundamental error on my part, too...

Have a look at PC optimization thread in the tips&tricks section.... review it all, pretty usefull. I used giga before, and i was getting 160voices at 3ms with Logic running without any problems, under XP, so you should, with some optimization get about the same results.

BTW, you are using SFP3.1C right? If not, first thing to do would be to upgrade your soft...

Yes, I have the latest version of the software. I'll follow your advice and see what happens. For now thank you very much for your comments!!

My gigapiano works perfectly but when I hit record in Cubase (for midi) the sequence slows down a lot when I play many notes.
