As in PS1 all sounds originate from a sound emitted from my SoundBlaster Live card - The sound can best be described as the sound from a razor or the humming from an amplifier. All samples (7 or 8 samples) are played and manipulated into the sounds you hear using Reason and ReasonFX.
This one has been extremely difficult to mix/master, because the bass is very low frequency - I can't hear it on my monitors (Yamaha NS-10M), but it sounds great in my headphones! I have tried to find a compromise between the two, but the levels of the different sounds has been difficult to set for different reasons. Therefore this is a beta-master - Please I need your opinion about the mix and the mastering!

Cheers!
Thomas

what you told j9k, applies to you as well: definitely an autechre fan! but that's  it's (one of) my favourite band(s) as well.

good stuff again! and yes this one sounds wicked on headphones or when played really loud. it's deeeeep.
it would be a nice thing to make some more tracks with this concept and release them as a 12" ep. i would buy it!

edit: maybe shorten the intro a bit. just my opinion, of course.

Nice!

You are defenitely right that there is still a potential in the songs by mixing it.

I miss extrem stereo/mono effects. Movement of sounds. Surprises like stop/go. Letting one sound or the other come to the front, then fade.

It's allright like it is, and will get even better with your practice I guess.

Thank you very much Cook - Those points you are making, are the kind of points I've been looking for, and those changes you mention are effects I havn't been thinking about myself in this mastering process, although this might be the right place to implant them - I'll do my best!

Cheers!

This is really great. In response to Borg I reckon if you are in the right mood then the introduction is a fine length . . . sort of meditative / monotonous calmness to the whole thing which rather reminds me of a really good tune by Plastikman (their best tune, in fact).

I really like the noises too, and not just cos I'm a sucker for that sort of thing, but because they really worked with the deep base.

Personally two things: first I agree with Cook that playing around with pan and mix would do wonders. This is a major hassle if you're as impatient as me though !

Secondly I reckon that it could do with a bit more progression. Keeping the progression slow, but making the tune a bit longer and slowly mixing in some more differing sounds would be really good for that meditative ambience.

Of course, this is just one man's opinion !

Thanks for the tune though,

Will.

Thanks mr swim!

Regarding the progression and making this track longer. PowerSearch2 is the middle piece of three. PS2 is kind of making the scene ready for PS3. Maybe PS2 and it's progrssion (or lack of it) will make more sense when listened toogether with PS3. I hope to have PowerSearch3 up sometime this week so the trio will be complete.
About introducing new sounds in PS2 - This might be a bit difficult, because of the way these sounds are produced, but of course not impossible. I think I will try the panning and volumefading-tips first though.

Cheers!

PS. mr swim, I believe that Plastikman is a onemanband, Richie Hawtin
