Helluw! Another midi-rookie question.

I have an Acces Virus hooked on my Pulsar midi-out, plus a midikeyboard on Pulsar midi-in. Now I want to also use the midi-out of the Virus (lots a knobs!!) to control Pulsar-synths. How do I do that? Do I need an extra midi-interface or something?

Hey guys, thank you sooo much in advance!

of course a second midi in....you could find a hardware midi merge box, but i've never used any (i have two cards with inputs), i can't point you anywhere....but that is what you need. you could also find a second cw used card, to add dsp's and inputs.

Hi Piet, have you tried making a MIDI loop? ie. "Pulsar->keyboard->Virus->Pulsar"

Make sure the Virus and keyboard have 'MIDI THRU' on -if the keyboard and Virus have outputs that can thru-put as well. Should work fine, a simple chain like that... Cable length should be not made longer than required, ie. get them to fit your setup and don't buy 5meter cables 'then they never are too short'.

IF Virus uses General MIDI CC# (see my MIDI Exposed topic in Study Forum), you could download the my Pc1600x presets for SFP devices in Tools & Presets Forum.
I know, many people said "hey they're for Pc1600x", but
1) I included preset files for SFP to recognise General Midi, where applicable. So most stuff in synths like ADSR, filters etc. will be remote controlled w GM, mixers don't have such GM parameters and these Mixer presets will not work for a Virus.
2) I programmed the Pc1600x to send CC# as per GM table, the same code as most synths (probably Virus too) send.
3) If all goes well, load the [device]Pc1600x.pre into your SFP device preset list and off you go tweaking!!

Compare the table here with your Virus MIDI implementation, the parameters for 'Defined Controllers' should mostly correspond...

Another more likely option  is that you don't want all that to be controlled, but just some parameters, choosen per project. There's 2 main differences between SFP and Pulsar 2.04 devices (both can be used in SFP):
-For SFP devices you have to save (and reload once per project) the MIDI Control Preset.
-Pulsar 2.04 devices (with older preset list, the one without banks) can be saved, yes the devices, including their preset list AND assigned CC#. They will always include their assignments, once the device is saved with them. Maybe there's some 2.04 devices in the zip file on my homepage, I don't remember well. Oh my memory is just like Emmentaler cheese Image
Well, Piet, I hope your instruments have combined output and thruput ports, then you can start to tweak already!

Have fun,

at0m.

Okay thanx! I'm not so used to midi that I fully understand what you mean by your explanation, but I hope I will soon. This really helps!
