Problems getting 2 cards working (SCOPE+LUNA)
Hi,
I have a Scope card and a Luna II card and Im having great difficulty getting them running together.
With the Scope card I have Scope software 2.0 (win98 only) and Pulsar software 3.01.
With the Luna card I have Luna software 3.01
The PC is a Intel pIV 2Ghz, intel 850MV with 1024mb rambus.
Basically the problem is that the cards/software dont seem to sync correctly. After booting up, and loading the software the cursor flashes between the arrow and the pulsar symbol. The samplerate popup does not show a stable setting, instead it just flashes on 44.1khz
I know its possible becuase at one point im sure it worked. Im sure I was using the Luna software when it worked. the Scope software wont currently run in XP - hopefully the 3.1 software will remedy that. So Ive been trying the pulsar + luna software. Ideally Id be using the pulsar software so that I have the synths available immediately and dont need to try and hack them onto the luna software.
I have tried the cards in various slots, but utimately the scope card with have to sit in the slot furthest away from the cpu (5 i assume) - space issue. The Luna card can go anywhere else.
Ive disabled pretty much everything in the bios including LAN/Parallel/Serial/Audio.
I've installed XP as standard PC. I've set the IRQs for both boards to the same in the bios but whatever I choose, they end up different. If I enable the USB one card always shares a irq with the USB no matter what IRQ settings I choose. I suspect this isnt the problem.
I've tried to install the cards simultaneously and also 1 at a time.
I've tried to put the STDM cable both ways around (I suspect it doesnt matter which way it goes anyway)
Also I always get an error like "LUNA Zlink Source hardware not available". this happens whether or not I have it plugged into my Ultra A16.
One last thing.. I have 3 ADAT connections on my SCOPE card. I plan to use 1 set for Channel B on the Ultra A16. Is it possible to use the other 2 sets as 2 x SPDIF Optical IOs? How do I go about this?
Thanks

why are you running all those different softs?you only need the scope soft or the pulsar soft.do you have the cards connected w/ an stdm cable? don't use the luna software!
(unistall it and clean the registry w/ regclean and/or easycleaner)

ta ok ill try and give it a clean. My distributor has recommended I also try running the Luna alone incase there is a hardware problem with that.
As for running the pulsar software, I can try it but win98 tends to bring me out in a rash.
For now though it is probably the best solution, or just to leave the luna out and wait for 3.1.
thanks

Well, how about that. did exactly what you suggested and it seems to be working
Cleaned all connections, reseated cards, and the cards ended up sharing irq5. Then i loaded the Luna software and lo and behold it worked.
Then I tried moving the cards and the irqs changed, but it still worked.
So ive replaced the luna software with the pulsar software, turned LAN and USB back on and its still working
I suspect dirty connections/poor seating of cards to be at fault.
Thanks for that
Just one big question I have..
Is there anyway to use the ADAT connections for SPDIF.
I would like to setup an SPDIF loop with my lexicon mpx200. I have a box that will convert from optical spdif to coax spdif and all the correct cables. I just need to find away of transferring SPDIF across an ADAT connection... is it possible?

ooooh
everything was working fine, so I put the case back on, shoved it back in my rack, plugged it in, turned it on and it stopped working!
Except.. I also plugged the Sync board back in. So, having not used it previously I guessed there was a chance I had plugged the cable in the wrong way round. I switched it round, booted up and now it works
So, moral of story is plug things in the right way!
Worth knowing this incase it happens to someone else.. in fact, Ill post something on tips and tricks.
Still wondering about ADAT -> SPDIF possibilities...

Yes you can use ADAT connections for SPDIF. You can buy an Alesis AI-1 box which allows ADAT light-pipe to interface with SPDIF.
As for your problems....
1. Do a completely fresh instal of 98. Get Windows 98 lite if you're feeling really all powerful!
2. Use Subhumans's tweaks off of this post and set all of them.
3. Then instal the Pulsar OS with both of your cards. Fresh install, 3.1, and not over 2.4 or any of that. This will make sure that your registry isn't totally fubar.
4. One of those cards may or may not have to function as card one. In the daughterboard instal manual you may have to edit the ini file for pulsar and label each of the cards "1" and "0" or two or something. (check the book I'm not totally sure exactly what to put. Maybe someone can post that here)
5. If this still doesn't work you may have to switch PCI slots. No one asked if you're using a VIA chipset either but that doesn't sound like your problem.
6. Hope this helps.

Well it seems I should be able to use my ADATs as SPDIF connections if I set them to so in the samplerate dialog box. However, for some reason I do not have that feature in the dialog box. Could this be due to old hardware?
My Scope card is rev 1.01 Dated 1999. Have there been newer models since?
Does anyone who has a Scope card of this age also have a similar problem?

hmm,
I've been informed by a local distributer that the "older adat plate" Scope cards may not support this feature. Waiting to hear from creamware directly about this. So, it sounds like a hardware issue. This might explain why SMUX devices also give me "Hardware not available errors".
It's a rev 1.01 board dated 1999.
let see if 3.1 can magically do something with it... otherwise ill be back on the hunt for a cheap ADAT->multi SPDIF convertor.

Both statements are unfortunatly true...On 2002-05-03 09:14, orbita wrote:

Also, there's no ULLI on the card, so the lowest it can go is 13 ms. This is the reason why I've ordered a new Scope/SP card. (And to get Z-Link).
Kim.
I guess that confirms it then..
Well Ive just bought this second hand so I have no plans to sell it and I couldnt afford a _new_ Scope card anyhow...
Yes the ulli didnt work either but now I have the Luna card as well I can use the ULLI from that and can get 3ms at 44.1khz.
I also get the Zlink port from that - cheaper than getting a new scope. Shame about the lack of spdif from adat - Ill have to just use the spdif from my Luna for my outboard reverb and move the cable to my DAT when I want to master.
Who wants to buy a stack of handmade Vandamme optical cables?
Just been playing with the STS5000 sampler. Assigned the timestretch to my pitch wheel and the filter/resonance/formant to knobs on my oxygen8. Soo much fun. This sampler is nice, plenty of features and not too complicated. Rather too many windows though but its still pretty cool.
