strange contact (or "i don't know") problem
sometimes (in last few days) when i starting computer pulsar's won't load project. i have icone in task bar but pulsar don't work.
when i open def project dsp metter is empty - 0%. then i just shake pulsar connectors and dsp goes up to normal value.
then i open cubase but have crakles while do recording.
then i close cubase and pulsar and shake connectors again. then everything starting properly and cubase works without crakles while recording and no problem.

Sometimes when I load different programs at the same time, Pulsar seems to be not properly loaded. I know, such loading's not done on DAW. There's times...
Pulsar properly loads when I ie. manually switch to slave and back to master. Quite easy workaround. It also works when your Z-Link cable has accidentally come loose
so your patchbay isn't integrated correctly in your project.
Sample rate switching is a neat way to resolve most common problems on your dsp's. And it's way faster than reloading most projects.

thanks, guys
i already tried with all plastic and metal screws, tried another irq, another slot, clean pulsar's connectors, i do clean reinstal of win98 and all programs but nothing!
pulsar now start every time but when i'm recording in cubase then after about 1 minute starts with crackling.
i must close cubase and pulsar and few seconds before i open pulsar project i must shake pulsar's connectors and after that i can recording with cubase all day with no problem.
so, every time when i opening pulsar i must first shake connectors?!
i never had this problem before?!!?

so, pulsar every time starting and everything playing with no problem, but if i do not shake connectors i have crackles while recording!?
uf, it's hard to explain and harder to understand?!

if you have it fixed by shaking anything it MUST be something related to hardware contacts...i think.
as i said, at the moment the issue seems solved for me.
when you fix the card to the case, is it in line with the hole of the screw? maybe you get a little torsion and the card looses some contacts in the bus....
i hope you solve it soon.
do you have distributors near home? usually the should provide hardware support. at least
in italy is that way, they are in torino, far from rome (where i live), but if i didn't solve it myself, i would send the card to them...
in my case shaking the cables mooved the i/o daughterboard repristinating contacts,
and when i tried to move the plastic screws, a couple of them were a bit loose. so removing them and retightening them seemed to do the trick...
of course if you have hw support near home is better you ask them.
and try also to speak with cw at the phone!
do it! they could suggest you the best moves.
another thing: when i had this issue if i opened the card settings panel from the systray, i noted the spdif connection led blinking, even if i don't have anything connected there, showing me that some strange contact was happening.
ciao, alfonso

very strange, very strange
i remove all screws from pulsar, remove i/o board and put everything back again but can help.
only solution is shakeing connectors before open project or use 16bit stuf and do 16bit recording in cubase!?
usualy i use 24bit.
maybe i miss to set something when i instal win98 last time?!
please, someone tell me "it's normal", because i'm going crazy!?

nothing can't help. i realy think that i have clean contacts now.
crackling don't starts imidiatly. if i recording 6 tracks at ones that starts to crackling after about 1,5 minute and if i record only 1 track than start after about 2-2,5 minute of recording and always on 24bit.
to avoid this i don't have to shake conectors before i open 24bit project - touching metal conectors is enough and after that i have no problems.
btw: with 16bit recording i don't have problems anyway (for now)!
i am crazy!

this is 55kb *.mp3 with this crackle.
i have no cw in croatia, but i write letter and wait for cw's response. yes, i will let you know
btw: i had recording session tonight and i did recording about 4 hour without any problems on 24bit, because i just touch pulsar's connectors before i open pulsar software.
if i don't touch connectors everything working perfect but 24 recording.
i'm realy confused!
i will not bother anymore about this.
i will let you know what cw said.
thanks!

i beleive too that must be something with ground and electrical, but it's strange because i working at my studio about 2 years without this problems. and why only on 24bit recordings?! anyway i will call someone to chek electric! On 2002-04-15 14:26, alfonso wrote:

if you solve it by touching metal parts it could be something electrical...
is your computer plug connected to a grounded outlet?
thanks, alfonso
