Great to hear a reggea production!
Reggea is an old love of me ((I'm in dance since 1989, but reggea and Afro pop like King sunny Adé etc. will be for ever, both are trancy anyway!!).
Some short comments.
1. question for the drummer cq drumprogrammer.
Why did he play that bassdrum pattern as he did?
Did he/she really not want to put the main accent on the 3rd count and let the 1st empty?
Sure there are no laws, and lots a reggea songs with walking bassdrum, but in this rather pure style ( as let's say Burning Spear) I think it would make the basis part of base and drum mutch more fat?
2. may be due to mp3, but for the drive I would say place the drums and the bas a bit more in the foreground.
The steadier the ridm track sounds, the more you can freely do what you want with the upper stuff.
Specially because you obvious choose for the fullness of the mix (see next).
3. I understand that you was consiously looking for the somehow chaotic character due to the simultaniousness of many elements (specially the background voices and the horns).
But I'm sure the song as arrangement would light up if you would dose that character more subtile.
In concreto this means placing the horns and the different background voices in the arrangement in a way they seem to take over from eachother.
This would give all those elements mutch more impact, and would make the fullfilled pieces more functional, and therefor more overwhelming.
4. would be just give a bit more impact if the horns would play just a bit more tight when playing unisono parts, but ok., not the main case
Anyway, very refreshing, and again a mixed complete song.
As I pointed out yesterday, for me it's more easy and more usefull to give comments to an end mix.
With a mix I can accept it as what the composer/band wanted to make, I can take the song for what it is.
From there on I can easily direct my my comments to the song as presented.
Hope I did make my thoughts clear for you.
