using VSTi's with Cubase/Pulsar...midi thru on-off?

I've just installed NI's Battery drumsampler and I want to use it as a VST instrument in Cubase. In order to play it from my keyboard I need to enable midi thru in Cubase -> midi -> system.
But somehow with Pulsar this results in Battery playing on every channel regardless of which one I'm playing. (In Pulsar manual it says NOT to enable midi thru!)

I was trying it out with settings like this:
I've got midi channels 1 to 4 for the Nord Lead, 5 for the pulsar Pro-One and 6 for Battery. The pulsar midi connections are default.

There is probably an easy solution for this but in cases like this, midi still eludes me

Any help would be appreciated!

Euh if you're using it as VSTi:
-load it in Cubase VSTi list and activate it.
-create new midi track
-set it's output to the VSTi (name will appear in Cubase midi out list)

Midi thru may stay on. Cubase thruputs only to the channel which is selected (if not in mulrirecord mode).

Actually I found out that it's not really just Battery that's playing on every channel, it's whatever midi track I have currently selected that plays, regardless of which channel I select on my keyboard. So I'm guessing midi thru should be off, because I you wouldn't want to play like this

So how do I play Battery from my keyboard then with midi thru off?

Yes I know how to load a VSTi

but then if channel 5 (battery) is selected, and I want to play a part on channel 2 on the Nord and so switch my midi keyboard to channel 2, channel 5 is also playing!
So I should always select the channel I want to play in Cubase? Or will it then thru itself on the same channel (?)?

thru on. channel to 'any' in cubase track. if not, cubase re-routes to the selected channel.

There's different ways to choose your channel:
-on your keyboard, (if Cubase track/part is set to 'any')
-on the track (if no ch. sel. on part),
-on the part and
-on the device.

In Cubase, you could typically use 'any' channel tracks to play any instrument, as you can choose from your keyboard or remote controller on which signal the midi is sent.

If you set the part or track to a certain channel, all inputs will be funneled to that channel. Cubase does it for you. Easy for recording, nasty if you wanna tweak knobs on all your machines and send midi where you wouldn't believe.

The Cubase thru function will thruput on
-it's original channel if track is set to 'any'
-the selected channel if one is selected

battery plays on every midi channel but only on 1 midi "output" in cubase.
you must select "output" for battery!
you can play more then 1 vst instruments in cubase on midi midi channel 1, but you must select midi outputs in cubase.
best way to use battery is to use "drum track". then you must select midi chanel to "any" and in "drum map" you must select "in note" (keyboard note), "out note" (battery target note) and "output" you must set to battery. you can leave midi channel on 1 and you don't have to change midi chanels on your keyboard.

Okay it seems there are multiple different ways to do this, it is just seems complicated at first. I like to have my midi channels set in the track column all the time, makes it all a bit more easy to see what's going where.
