I need to use a NIC, but the one I have has a latency of 128 clocks!
It is a realtek 8139C based chipset.
If anyone has a NIC in their machine that they would recommend, It would be much apprectiated.

It's also sort of a tip for all those who want to check wether they have problem cards
check its PCI latency using Sisoft sandra > PCI .... Busses info.

I use a "Level One" USB ethernet adapter, and it works fine for me.
But:
-As it is no USB2.0 device, I do not get the max of 100Mbit transfer, and
-my OS (98SE) takes quite a long time at the boot to reckon and install this adapter.
So it´s not a good solution for heavy network traffic, but for my DSL connection and a little bit of LAN-gaming it´s fine all the way.
But it´s much more expensive than usual PCI network adapters... I payed 60 Euro for it.
