Uses the Pulsar Mixer, eq's, delays, STS-4k (for some drum samples). Also, Emu e64 (vibes and wurly), Oasys (tine-y e-piano), Microwave XT (just for the blippy thing at the beginning), G&L ASAT thru Roland VG-8, crappy fender bass, and Rode NT1 mic for the tambourine, doumbec, shaker, acoustic guitar.

Very tasty playing, Mr."I-just-barely-learned-enough"!

I just listened to this sampler of a new guitarist trying to make it out of his basement and this is waaaaaaaaay better sounding!
Interesting that you play the dominant note of the chord on hte bass when your talking comes in around 3:00. It gives more tension to the text somehow.

very surprising! this is imho a very good song: excellent playing, good vocals (although on my system something did sound a little to shhish (i'll leave this one for the pro's to name it

)), nice overall mix,...

Yeah, i was a little unhappy with the 'sssh'iness of the voice in the mix. I'm uncomfortable with my voice in general, so I often add a bit of distortion on the vocal track (warmth and obfuscation). I used the Pulsar mixer's eq to do low-cut high-boost (a la exciter), which sounded ok. Then used t-racks to master it, which I think further boosted the highs, and this is the end result. I guess it's easy to screw things up in mastering, and I wasn't too careful here.

i like the track, i would change some things though, you really have to use a de-esser on your vocals, mayby try the waves de-esser or cut it out with par. eq. then i would also add alot of reverb to the vocals with a little bit of stereo spread to it. mayby even a delay. it's too thin now for the rest of the tune. it's to be more dreamy in my opinion

Yeah, all the "s" sounds are pretty overwhelming at around 3:45 - perhaps a bit too much alliteration

Well, I was trying to keep the vocal fairly up-front and dry, because my usual tendency is total obfuscation!

It has a stereo delay on it, but it's a bit faint. I don't think it has any verb at all. I'll mess with it a bit. One of my goals was to keep it understandable. Is it?

otherwise reverse that eq'ing! and use a desser to remove the hiss and a compressor to boost the levels. waves vox plugin is quite nice.

ehmm.. to be honest i can only understand a few words hehe. what you need to do is make the vocals louder in level(compressor) and eq it mayby a bit between 2 and 3 Khz, this will enhance the recognition. then add a reverb to it, not to little not to much, i guess you can use timeworks for it, there are better ones but timeworks is a good alround one which usually does the job nicely. what you need to accomplish is to make the vocals sit along with the other instruments in the same atmosphere(meaning lot of delay and reverb) and still be recognisable(a bit in the foreground).

forgot to say, what also would be nice,

to add a tape delay with feedback around 50/52% in logic on the vocal track and sometimes let some parts of the vocals delay feedback, mayby before a new section starts or after a section stops. this makes it really spacey!

Hi John, you make me watching out the window into the shining sun and having no thoughts in my head.
I like the upcoming ambient of your music. In the beginning there is a little of PinkFloydStyle sounding to me. A compression deessing , a small booth at 3,8Khz and thining the Panaroma a little, should solve your Vocal problem. I like it when musicians are let there tones vibe out.
Again, I like your way of music.
