This gate can be placed between the Mic/DI inputs, and the mixer (before any DSP gain or level, as it changes the gate response).
if it saturates, it is because your "preamp" (or xite Mic/Di Gain potis) are set too high.
it is a project module because there is not many mixer with insert slots before the input gain, eventhough that's where such device should be placed.
The default settings have been set for speech/song, and harmonicas, to provide a smooth opening and fast closing, in order to avoid any digital artefact while letting all expressivity pass through
May work as an insert effect, I did not try (the device is a midi device, eventhough it does not show any midi capability, which are useless here: you set it once for all for your inputs).
