LMMS and scope
LMMS and scope
i've just discovered this open source software, and i'm soon going to try it
https://lmms.io/
Do you ever tried it with scope, do you think it could be a nice software to use ?
i was thinking of using Reaper instead of samplitude, but maybe this one could be a nice and innovating solution ?

Re: LMMS and scope
nice and innovating ?
the dude who made the tutorial might consider to write a script before mumbling into the microphone
a few bucks to license the screen cam software wouldn't hurt either
perfect example for what I hate about open source: no own ideas, but spoiling other people's business
and always (at least) 10 years late
cheers, Tom

Re: LMMS and scope
hmm, 128ms latency? is he using a sound bastard?
I get 3ms roundtrip using old PCI Scope cards

Good point at0m. I think most web servers out there run Linux and Apache

Re: LMMS and scope
No Ctrlr or ScopeSync either. In fact, you'd be hard pushed to find any software/firmware that doesn't rely in some way on open source project.at0m wrote:without open source, no internets, no planetz. for many many years.
just saying.
Also, recording tutorial videos well is really hard and if you're developing software as a hobby, you just do your best with limited resources (and skills, in my case!) No-one's paying for a script to be written

Re: LMMS and scope
Pure Data is open source and is a very capable piece of software.
Re: LMMS and scope
Good points boys. I think my router's firmware even uses open source firmware! It's crazy.

That's a good one Ronnie!

Re: LMMS and scope
But I would also like to get money for nothing and chicks for free. But I guess you cannot have everything

I did not write that all open source sucks, but this particular way of 'business'at0m wrote:... without open source, no internets, no planetz. for many many years.
just saying.
quote from the respective site:
LMMS is a free cross-platform alternative to commercial programs like FL ...
of course there's a 'Donate' button somewhere
without existing software like Fruity or (say) Energy XT (licenced for 30 bucks) that dude wouldn't roll out anything
cheers, Tom
Re: LMMS and scope
I remember trying out FL a long time ago, probably when it first came out. And Sonar just killed it! I thought it was a toy compared to Sonar. Maybe it was good for 'making beats', but if you wanted sequencing, Cakewalk was the way to go.

Re: LMMS and scope
Actually, I just downloaded the LMMS thing for my MacBook Pro, top of the line 3.5 years ago. It does make sound at 1.5ms latency with just CoreAudio. But I cannot find my way around it. Hey, instead of pirating, kids can start with this. It does eat a lot of CPU though, and browsing through the plugins it looks like they are back from 2000. I don't know who created them.

https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/graphs/contributors lists LMMS contributors, but I guess you knew that. And that LMMS doesn't create plugins.tlaskows wrote:browsing through the plugins it looks like they are back from 2000. I don't know who created them.
For UI, LV2 can provide its own UI, LADSPA depends on the host for a generic UI so all LADSPA will look the same in the same host environment. LADSPA is limited to fx, LV2 does instruments, too.
Maybe check some of Robin Gareus' fx at https://github.com/x42/x42-plugins. They're multi-platform, and come as standalone (for use with jackd) and as plugin.
For those who are unable to compile, http://x42-plugins.com has them pre-compiled, but these require a license file like Mixbus (Robin works there). Or check your distribution's repo's

Re: LMMS and scope
Viddy well viddy well,
But I am not that impressed. Have you tried this thing? The Tee Bee 'emulation' sounds terrible. The TR-808 drum kit doesn't sound like a TR-808! The SID plugin, hmm, not very good. If I want a SID, I will build a MidiBox. I have a chip sitting somewhere in the basement that I pulled out of a C64 I got for a dollar. I will swallow sadness and etch my own PCB or just use a perfboard.
Let me get back on track

Free 'sample' PICs from Microchip should be on the way. They only allowed me to have 3? I wish I had like 500
