impuleses for some apple devices

Post by kensuguro »

These are impulses for people who want to do quick spot checks (simulations) for their mixes on:
iPhone 5
iPad Air
Nexus 7 (the new one)
and Logitech shit multimedia speakers

Yup, I'm mixing audio for a mobile game. These were made from a 7 second sweep from Voxengo's Deconvolver, recorded through a measurement mic. Kinda bad noise floor due to NY city noise, but it works. Gives you a general idea of how badly these tiny devices mangle your audio.

It's interesting how the Apple devices have just a teeny tiny bit of 200-300hz, which helps quite a bit with bass and kick drum intelligibility while Nexus 7's response starts at about 400hz, which really cuts out all musical content related to bass. (and plenty of 7k-10k, making everything sound screechy irritating... marvelous acoustic design)

Also, these are mono impulses, but it shouldn't matter since the playback pretty much is compacted and emanate from a near singular point anyway.

BTW, did you know that measurement mics can be pretty cheap? For like $100 you can start recording ear piercing sine sweeps everywhere and annoy the hell out of everyone. I actually got a an even cheaper, even shabbier one that plugs into my iPhone, which actually works very well! (can't go wrong with $16 investment) http://www.daytonaudio.com/index.php/im ... phone.html I use it with Studio Six's Audiotools app to apply the mic calibration file and record. Audiotools also has a $59.99 impulse recording/deconvolver but Voxengo's works better for me.
