Windows Media and VLC

Post by dawman »

Is it possible for Windows media player to accept transport CCs from MIDI.
Odd question but I have a genuine interest in using these 2 apps for SFX instead of using Kontakt or a sample player.
Right now I can use them by simply clicking, but it does take a hand away from my keyboards which is where I would like to be able to use certain commands.

Thanks.

P.S. or even easier, you could just use a pc keyboard with multimedia controls, which will almost certainly be hooked up to those apps by default.

The tough thing, is that you need to have WMP or VLC in focus to get keyboard input.

I can't claim direct experience, but these options are media players that are VST plugins...so you should be able to map midi, automation, whatever, that your DAW supports for any VST plugin.

"xtal"..looks more like DJish, but seems to work for many people, and includes pitch/beat matching.

mp3play...only play mp3, and seems simple.

Or this, which is free/$15. It seems to offer more choices for file playback, has a seekbar, and playlists.

Thanks guys, now I can get to work.

Keyboard shortcuts are easier than the mouse, no doubt, but I would much prefer a plug in as I can map controllers then and keep my mittens activated.....

This gets better everyday.

Cheerz.
