How'bout a ECS (Elite Group) K7S5A motherboard & Athlon XP 1x00+ ?
It's a cheap, stable and lightning fast motherboard. The PCI bandwidth is also superior. Pulsar II/3.01 + Cubase 5 are running great on this configuration and can also handle extremely VST/DX-plugin loads with very low (ASIO) latency.

BTW. from what I hear, XP is safe, stable, produces less heat than TB, faster, and so on, so on... just make sure your memory doesn't become a bottleneck - if you go XP ditch SDRAM also and get DDR memory and a decent mobo.

Is it safe to use? I currently work fine with Win98SE and 768 MB DDR onboard. How long have you been working with XP? It never crashed? On 2001-11-07 05:46, Funktastico wrote:

Is it possible to install a stripped version of XP, or do you have to install the whole enchilada?
