Cannot start the SCOPE application! (E0001A) [fixed]

Post by asktoby »

Posting this to help out future-google-me and anyone else in the same boat:

I just rebuilt my PC and could not activate my Scope board.

When I imported my v5 key file I got a dialog
"Registry. Import
Succeed. [OK]"

Then I saw:
"Installation error or invalid activation key!
Cannot start the SCOPE application! (E0001A)"

The install was SONIC_CORE_SCOPE_PCI_v5.1.2709-x86_EN, fresh from Scope website yesterday.

Solution:

Unfortunately, v5.1 requires a new keyfile and it's not free. the reason for the fee is to offset the considerable costs of developement and
support for the old cards which were made by Creamware and not Sonic|Core.

if you wish to purtchase the upgrade, you may do so here:
http://sonic-core.net/joomla.soniccore/ ... 54&lang=us

You might say "I had no problems with 5.0 on XP. Does 5.0 work on Windows 7?
If so, what's the incentive to upgrade to 5.1?"

v5.0 will work on win7, but only in 32bit. you only need v5.1 if you are moving to 64bit, in which case, there's a discount for v5 users:
http://www.sonic-core.net/shop/product_ ... e0392d96ae
(Currently €129)

if you are staying in a 32bit os, there is absolutely no reason to upgrade at this time, please save your money and install v5. the only advantage to v5.1 is 64bit operation.

For myself, €129 is not worth it to upgrade to 64bit. My new machine has 8GB RAM and Windows 32bit tells me that only 2.9GB is usable, which is a shame, but I don't really feel the pinch of it.
I will wait for Scope 6 before making this upgrade I think.

OK, just noticed this deal:
http://www.sonic-core.net/shop/product_ ... c27d5405cf
SCOPE v5.1 + Modular IV
99,- EUR net (£81)
Valid until Jan. 31st!

So for £81 I get to use 64bit Windows, an additional 5GB of RAM sitting in my machine, and get Modular IV.
Sorely tempted. Only 3 days to decide...
