Looking to get into scope, advice needed.

Post by snadge »

Looking to buy a scope system, mainly for modular shenanigans but I can see problems with my setup.

ATM I run win7 64bit and Cubase 7 64bit on Asus Ivy bridge 1155 i5 3570k, 24gb ram with motu 424 system ( 2408 mk3 and 24 I/O) with protools 32 bit magma chassis with 4 TC Mk2 Powercore cards in chassis, these run perfectly in cubase with the bridge that cubase provides.

I have 3 PCI slots spare in the chassis and would like to populate these with scope dsp cards.

Am I barking up the wrong tree and being to greedy with my PCI bandwidth or can this work?

That might be a set-up that just simply has to be tested, no one here may be able to answer your question. If someone here does have a magma and alot of powercore cards with SCOPE hopefully they will jump into this thread and answer you, but it possibly needs to be tested with your specific rig/configuration and you may need to eliminate one or two of the powercore cards. Wich may not be the end of the world since the SCOPE Platform is good enough to cause alot of gear to be eliminated.

I remember a guy with UAD and PoCo, not sure if they shared the same chassis or not, but he seemed rather pleased and UADs effects back then were good, as were PoCo's.
I do remember he mentioned the Synth they made really sucked though.
But at the price and availability of the Pro and Project cards, it wouldn't be an expensive failure if they didn't work. Just use remote desktop and some cheap old 200 USD Core Duo machine to salvage any failued endeavors.

Thanks for the replies, I will probably look for a pulsar 4 dsp card with adat to get me started, I will post back on this thread when I get it installed to inform everyone of my success, or failure.

I would recommend the 6 dsp, that's a little newer then the 4. The 6 is a small card to but more adequate for demoing the platform power-amount-wise and a later model that may yield less technical difficulties. The 4 may be fine tho, just saying a higher success may be with the 6dsp project card with your newer computer and magma situation.

Also, a 6 dsp-card will give a lower latency than the 4 dsp-card is capable of.
