Intel Core ix xxxx vs (k,x,s versions) ...

Hi all,
I'm planning to upgrade my old configuration to the latest intel core generation (4th generation ?), but as far i remember there is Intel Core ix xxxx and it's power saving k version.

I presume for an audio configuration, power saving options are useless, am i right ?

I am just looking at the 4960X and 4930K myself for a new computer, and the only difference I can see is .01GHz faster processor and 3MB extra RAM cache. For quite a bit extra money I don't think the Xs are worth it. Not heard the K described as power saving, it operates just as the X as far as I know.

Sorry, k version are for overclockers (Unlocked)!
S version is power saving
X Desktop or mobile dual-core extreme performance processors

What does PCI SKU line mean ? what is impact on PCI architecture ?

a SKU is a model number.

it means that none of the new motherboards have real PCI slots. they are tacked onto the PCIe bus with a third party controller. the z87 and h87 systems seem to work just fine, however.
