Using luna 2496 io with hotter input signals than -10dbv
Hi!
I want to make drum-recordings with luna 2496 io using microphon preamps with higher output signals than -10dbv. I get distorted signals from basedrum/snare mics, when preamp is set to lowest value possible.
Is it that easy, to build a pad:

So I'd make the L-shematic with R1 = 10k & R2 = 3.6k

Will this effect soundquality?
... and the next quesion: Is a certain kind of resistors better for soundquality than the other?

Are you sure that its not you mic preamp that is overloaded? Normally you pad the signal before the mic preamp. With a kick and snare it very easy to overload preamps.

Some devices need -10dbv (consumer) others +4dbu (pro). So it can be read in many places. I believe, Luna 2496 io is pro, because it sounds very good, but I have problems, connecting a preamp with high output. The preamp itself does not overload (shows nothing like that & it's no problem with A16 inputs). I hope this little pad-trick will work. We'll see. It's not too much money invested for some resistors.

a Luna is -10db consumer line level.
+4 professional line level is just about always balanced.
-10 or -20 is almost always unbalanced.
both should sound pretty much the same.

Soldering PAD-cables right now. IT WORKS as I expected. Drums through modded SM pre8E into LUNA 2496 IO don't clip any more. Cool setup this is now. I got 3 LUNA 2496 IO for so damn cheap on ebay & now I can use them in any setup! They sound VERY good (as to be expected with creamware gear)

those should work.
you do realize that the Luna 1/4" jacks are stereo, right? if so, i apologize for pointing out the obvious.

I'm using the break out box Luna 2496 io. So mono-klinke to mono cinch. 2 resistors as described above.
It's the other way round: cinch goes to Luna 2496io, 6,3 Klinke Buchse goes to mic-preamp (using Pr8e asym or Tascam MA 8 which is not symmetrical anyway). I'm using the Stereo Input because they were cheaper than mono

Today tested old Scope-Computer with 11 dsps for Mixing my Music class with 18 channels (15 microphones & 1 bass DI & 2 mono Keyboards). It works FANTASTIC!!! I used my eeepc via VNC with network cable to stand in the middle of the big hall and remote control the scope computer to mix the whole thing.
Tomorrow is the concert & I'm looking forward hearing a great sounding system with my great playing music class.

Thats pretty cool, remote controlling Scope PCI from laptop. You got any more pictures for Scoperise ?

What is VNC ? how is it possible to control with a laptop ?

VNC is just a remote control PC app where the laptop takes over the screen and mouse of the PC.
So the Scope mixer seen on the laptop is actually running on the PC.

you can use remote desktop, which is built into windows, too.
