Pulsar 1 a full duplex card?

Post by quantum »

Is the Pulsar 1 a full duplex card, meaning it can play and record at the same time? Or does it depend on which I/O option, Classic or Plus?

yes, of course it's full duplex. it's more than full duplex, audio can be routed in and out of multiple i/os while recording in a couple of apps in the computer and outside the computer, all simultaneously.

Thanks but what about the digital I/O only since I don't use the analog I/O? I am guessing the RCA and Toslink would need to output signal separately, like two separate master outs, for it to be full duplex on the digital side, right?

You can set up a Scope cards I/O in software - the project. Sending a signal to Analog and SP/DIF simultaneously means just drag/drawing two lots of cable pairs (stereo) from the same output point (eg ST Mix Out) to both Analog Out and SP/DIF out.

Analog full duplex and digital full duplex can be done together or independantly.

So yes, - its more than full duplex - its megamultiplex - or whatever ...

Using free routing, I can easily do 'loopback' recording as it was called back in the SoundBlaster / SW1000XG days...

The only thing Scope 'blocks' you from trying to implement is a feedback loop but thats another story isnt it lads ?

You're right. It is full duplex even in digital only mode. So it is multiduplex. I have Classic I/O and was able to play and record by using SPDIF RCA OUT as MAIN OUT, TOSLINK OUT as MONITOR OUT, and TOSLINK IN as RECORD IN. For this configuration clock has to be set to SLAVE, Pulsar to OPT. SPDIF, Sync Source to SPDIF, and Samplerate to whatever. And also, all RECORDING/MONITORING channels in the Scope mixer and DAW have to be muted while recording or you may experience the wrath of Scope
