Got some Velvet Garbos for the double bass too - 2x fat, 2x volume, 2x tone, 1/2 tension. I'm a happy bastard :D

Our Universal Bond is the Music......Merry XMas.
The Bass Looks awesome from that angle, love it.
Also that's a serious VIntage Piano with new keys, unless my eyes are decieving me.
I usually can tell the age and use by the Benches wear and tear, and those Pearly Whites look like Dentures to me.....

$500 special from my tuning/removin/ playin friends :)

It's got a light touch on it Jim, keeps a ham-fisted wookie like me honest.

Honky tonk vibe on the hammers too - been thrashing Monk on it still :D

Very cool... :) I recognise a good double-bass feel when I see its fingerboard, and yours looks really plesant to play. If it sounds as it looks, it must be great!

Enjoy these great gifts my friend! :D

and it's cool to see the Brandenburg Gate as a xmas present down under - in memory of a gig ?

merry xmas and happy holidays, Tom

:) - no story, just wife & son thought I'd like them. Lego for grown-ups ;)

Although there could be a subtle message from the young 'un to play my Bach more Gangnam style

40C here til new year, then it'll drop back to a balmy 34C . Phew.

And for any bass folks out there - garbos kick it - just done a few 3-hour test drives.

Mingus & Charlie Haden vibe.

Especially if you're 6'5", 100kg and like to maul a bass :D

Also, one has to file out the bridge so the strings aren't pinched.

Took me two trips to the hardware store to restring this bass - firstly bought an eye hook attachment for the cordless drill, softened it's grooves with some gaff (nashua). Best, cheapest string winder.

2nd trip for the micro file set when i realised how fat these bastards are - (read the instructions first).

Coloured in the new notches with a 2B graphite pencil

Thing is, this brings this beautiful '20s double bass into the fantastically playable league, all the tone of a master carved bass is there.

Left to me by a departed brother who played Firebird on it with Stravinsky conducting in Sydney, 1961.

Good times :)
