Mega analog LFO?

Post by kensuguro »

Occurred to me that we don't see LFO's that are super analog circuit modeled. Or maybe there are, just not that much hype around it. Anti aliased LFOs and stuff if they go up to nyquist.. Anyway, thought it was interesting since same tech for osc basically can be applied to LFO, yet people don't go around upset about digital LFO that sound too digital and clean and flat. I'm just joking btw.

You should play a hardware Solaris if you ever get a chance. 96k internal processing and audiorate modulations make the LFOs and ADSRs rather intense. Better than my SE-1Xs LFO as it's rates don't go near as low as Solaris at .01 for a rate.
I have never tested the actual rate of the SE-1X but I'll take a guess that it's lowest rate is .30 which is holding it back for certain chores.
But it's so damn thick I forgive Studio Electronics.

If S|C can somehow get the coding of Solaris incorporated in their synths and Modular, it would be an incredible leap.
I have no idea if that can be done, but I do know the chips in the XITE-1 are the same as Solaris, so surely they share some traits.
Hell if I could get the XITE-1 to get a conversion to a rack mounted Solaris and use the 6 x old chips for mixing, I'd pay dearly for that. But I like dreaming outloud...

B.t.w., yesterday I came across a german site about Solaris and there are cool audio examples based on a test/review when scrolling down to the bottom.

I hope I can afford that beast one day next future.
I think it´d be killer together w/ XITE-1/SCOPE (and Copperlan MIDI).

leave it to Jimmy to have fully exploited any and every aspect of the synth. (takes a long, Japanese bow, "thank you sensei") lol. True though, that the "range" of the LFO is definitely something that it can can be measured by, both up and down. I'm surprised that LFOs that low can be utilized to good effect. At that point maybe it's closer to analog "drift". Man, solaris definitely seems to be the shiite, you've been raving about since, like a year before it even materialized.

It is, especially for the guys that use one and don't just collect stuff.
I like those long silky smooth ( Zohan ) .06 Sine wave swept Filter sweeps.

The guy who was from Dream Theater ( original ) has a cool interview with his rig which must have a crew as it's a B3, and tons of real old hardware like a D6, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Marshall Heads, and if you look closely you'll the Neo Ventillator that used Scope and Reaper I think to create. I think he just did a Billy Idol tour in Russia or something using it, having seen the show on YouTube yet. Use to have a Babe back in '80s..

I use one of those with 2 x different Monoprice ADAT Converters and run Solaris through the B2003s Leslie emulation, or the Neo, or S|C MIDI 4 Pole, SpaceF FIlters from BBII, Shrooms Extreme Cut, so Solaris is all Digital for me, even the Pedal Effects I use.
That's why I was relieved to see this video of a fellow keyboardist using Pedal effects.

I had my first Apollo Wah-Wah and Vox Distortion Booster when I was like 12, so I am still a Pedal junkie. But Scope does so well I don't need that many as they are noisy, so the Wax-S Wah-Wah w/ the C2x2 by SpaceF w/ HighDrix Filters and an Expresssion Pedal is actually better for me.
Check out this junkie though...

I´ve watched this vid 2 days ago,- Derrik Sherenian is really a gear junkie !
Now waiting for the promised next vid incl. audio demonstrations ...

Visited a Black Country Communion (that´s the band he´s recording with in the vid) concert last summer when he didn´t use the Solaris in his rig.
Now I can´t wait to see the next tour.
It´s a very good band b.t.w. and w/ lots of Led Zeppelin roots.
And yes, I also (try to) replace as much stomp boxes and outboard FX w/ XITE too, which in most cases works pretty good.
I´d have to buy some additional 3rd party devices to make it perfect though.

Searching SpaceF´s website, I see the Wax-S wah-wah (FX) as well as Hi-Dryx (Filter) in the Blackbox II arsenal.
No info for BB2 price over there.
Is it neccessary to buy the complete BB2 bundle even I eventually dot need everything included?

best

I think you guys should just buy the whole BB2 package when he opens up shop again.
There's tons of stuff, great variety of Filters, and they work great in Modular Inserts as well Wax-S, etc.
I couldn't pull off half of the live stuff I do w/o BB2.
Maybe I can get a response........

Hey Medhi,
Can I sell these guys each a copy of my BB2 and pocket a couple of Hundred Bucks..??

Ankyu...

I once saw a pic of JB demo'ing Solaris to Jordan Rudess so I'm surprised if he doesn't own one now already. Anyway I've been dicking around with (and just discovered the brilliance of) Interpole which I think is based on a cascading Moog filter and they dont get much Mega than that do they ? Well OK its digital, but seems like a great LFO filter though, worthy of a well overdue Scoperise review and inclusion in future productions. Another way to get rhythmic movement into ProWave pads and even better, dicking around with the stereo spread and left/right processing can be LFO phase alternated. And the fact its digital doesnt seem to impede the quality coz of the meticulous S|C circuitry modelling which eliminates aliasing even during the most radical of sonic twists and turns.

Anyway try it out and tell me your adventures with it Ill include in article.
