using a pulsar without scope

Post by jonboyblue »

Hi

I don't know if this is possible but Is there anyway I can use my old pulsar 2 card in a windows 7 pc without buying scope 5/5.1?

I wondered if anyone had found any drivers which would would allow the card to function as a conventional soundcard (asio/midi/wave drivers) but obviously not utilising the onboard dsp.

I would like to put it in my new pc as an extra card but I dont want to pay for the software update because I don't really use it anymore.

Cheers

NO!

how can the dsps be managed without the program?
how can the card do ANYTHING without the dsps being assigned?

if you want to use the card, software has been produced for you. pay the workers for helping you out. if you don't want to use the card, don't pay.

You should make use of it, as the effects and synths are still largely ahead (regarding sound) of VSTs (not the kind you get for free from a synthmaker enthusiast, but the kind you also would pay for from an engineer that knows the details of DSP). An upgrade is about $200, cheaper than any decent audio interface, and the number of devices you get for that price is about the same as upgrading to Ableton Suite.

The whole wonderous thing about Scope is that it exposes its ASIO I/O's to the rest of Windows based on whats in the currently loaded Scope project.

Thats why Cubase doesnt like it if you close down Scope while Cubase is still in session (when Scope ASIO XITE has been selected as the 'Audio Driver')

No Scope project running = no I/O available to rest of O/S. Even with XTC mode, theres a Scope project running underneath (is that right?).

Hence the whole concept of Scope H/W negated if not running Scope S/W.

This is unlike any other 'soundcard' where the I/O's are known at bootup and can never be changed/increased/rerouted - you're stuck with those I/O's and the routing that particular sound card has etched into it's hard wired circuits.
