Prodyssey - what is it good for ?

Post by dante »

I've had the idea for a while of doing a ScopeRise article on this interesting synth. I realised I haven't really spent much time on it, yet it has history and notoriety.

I'm interested to know what it's good at, how close to the original it is (The MKIII I assume), history of Creamware making it, tips and tricks, patches, tracks using it - anything really.

For background, I've just read 'The Rise and Fall of ARP Instruments'

http://www.rhodeschroma.com/?id=arp

An interesting read.

Indeed,- just spent an hr or so on that site.

Well, I liked the original ARP Odyssey for reedy leads, some synth bass and weird FX.
We had a white one in our rehearsal room in the late 70th which was not mine but I could play it.
It was always a welcome alternative to my Minimoog D.

You know, I have Prodyssey for my Creamware 15 DSP card and surprisingly, to my ears, Prodyssey offers a bit more low end than Minimax does.

Still waiting for my XITE-1 SCOPE 5.1 keys and I hope for a transfer of Prodyssey key over to XITE-1/SCOPE 5.1.
I´ll use both, Minimax and Prodyssey as lead and bass synths then.
I´d like to see a Moog Taurus I emu mimiking V/Hz OSC for SCOPE,- a device like the new hardware Moog Minitaur is.
All three would be a excellent combo.

Modulars ARP Odyssey emulation has better Sync than the ASB or stock patch.
I had the Klangbox and it sounded good because the converters were newer than the cards used, but with the XBox, Modular will soon become a way of Life....
