Installation Problems, please help!

Post by Dati »

Hi,
I bought a Pulsar 2 and wanted to install scope. First of all the seller told me that scope 5 is on the card, but i installed scope 3, witch was on the CD he gave me (Not a good idea?), because there was no scope 5.

After a quick look in the internet, i send the serial number to sonic core and they sent me back a keyfile.
And they told me on the Card is the version 4.5 Scope, but it should be 5.0 or seller lied.
So i downloaded 4.5 on the sonic core website and tried to install Scope, then i had a few driver issues.
After deinstalling the scope 3 from the CD of the Seller i tried again, and it installed right.
BUT, i can only open Scope directly after installation, when it askes if you want to open scope now, and i push Ok button.
After quiting scope and trying to open again there is an error:

Installation error
Hardware version 20 detected. This hardware requires a software update. Please consult the installation guide.

I deinstalled and deleted everything i could find and tried to install serveral times, with same result,
Please help i want to use this beautifull Card!!
Cheers

are you sure that you have actually closed Scope and that you didn't just hide it? if the Scope logo is in the tray near the clock, it's just hidden. clicking on the icon(in v4.5 it looks kinda like an olive), and choosing "show" will bring Scope back into veiw...

be sure that the card is fully seated. it can look seated, but not really be. the gold contacts on the card are very sensitive to dirt and oils, like fingerprints. use a soft eraser or a good contact cleaner and a swab to clean the card's contacts, if reseating the card doesn't help.

Thanks guys!
I tried both of your suggestions but had the same error.
Luckily i found a way to fix it, so for everyone having the same problem:
1: Try what Gary and Dante said.
2: Right click on the Scope 4.5 Desktop-Icon, and click " treat compatibilityproblems" (translated from german, so may differ in english).

Thanks again!
Now i am going to explore the scope universe....

Or indeed, reveal his identity so as others can avoid the sting...

...possibly something about if you bought 4.5 you're entitled to get 5.0 ? But then you'd have thought S|C would give him 5.0 keys if he contacted them bout it.

I wouldn't hang the seller just yet. He might have the keyfile for scope 5.0 laying around as he has most probably recieved this by mail. Also SC have been very confusing regarding what you are entitled to regarding upgrade from 4.5, and sonic core isn't world champions in logistics. you might be entitled to v5. Ask the seller for documentation (i've had a rather long waltz myself with SC regarding similar issues).
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Hi guys,
of course i contacted the seller, and he luckily is willing to help me.
He said if the Scope 5 is on his Luna card, he will try to transfer the license.
I really think he is save to be trusted, cause he kindly answered my rather harsh e-mail in witch i was complaining.
I just told the Support to contact the original owner.
Hopefully I will be able to enjoy scope 5 soon....

I just have a other question really off topic but please help me with a decision...
I want to connect my recently bought Soundcraft 200b to my computer.
The a16 ultra is even second hand a bit to expensive for my needs, and other ADAT converters seem to be even more expensive.
So do you guys think i can use a old Lunabox (unbalanced for sure) with my Soundcraft and be satisfied?
Im not a pro-producer, but dont want it to destroy the (in my opinion) rather good soundquality of the Soundcraft.
And is it a problem using balanced and unbalanced gear side by side.
I know that unbalanced cables tend to grab more unwanted signals from outside, but is this the only downside, and could it even be unimportant when using small cables?
Thanks very much for your participation so far, keep on advising! :D

the only real problem with connecting the SoundCraft to the Luna box is level. the Luna expects a -20 signal and the mixer is probably +4. you can use a buffer amp, or just beware of gain on the SoundCraft. the direct outs or the insert outs may be -20 however, check the manual.

as to going from balanced to unbalanced, if the levels match, you can just leave the sheild unterminated on the unbalanced end(just tip positive and sleeve negative, but no sheild) or you can also cnnect the sheild and negative. some devices may not like the latter, however and depending on how the signal is balanced, connecting sheild and ground may damage some devices, so beware. a transformer can also be used to isolate ground.

radiated noise probably won't ever be an issue for you. unbalanced lines will likely be just fine, as far as this goes.

yes, the SoundCraft sounds great. i have one from that period too, a 1600.

if i were you, i'd just save a little more money. otherwise, just use a behringer ADA-8000.

Hi,
the manual says: The console is designed to work at either +4dBu or -10dBV (Tascam) level. Changing between the two requires altering an internal switch on the group outputs and adding push-on jumper on the input channel PVBs.
Could you tell what PVBs are?
And does that mean, that i have to add jumpers to them with a soldering iron?
Never used one before.

PS: Would you say, that the converters on the Lunabox are nothing better that the Beringer ADA 800 ones?

no, the jumpers should be push-on, although you could solder if you really wanted to(i wouldn't. it'd make undoing harder). i believe that it's PCB board, as in "Printed Circuit Board" not PVB board.

as to AD/DA quality, it's a toss-up. the Luna's probably better, but the Behringer's balanced and has mic pres, making it a very good buy...
