Audio crackles when moving Windows

Post by the19thbear »

Hey. Just upgraded my daw.
Specs:
Nvidia 8400gs
I7 3,5ghz quadcore
4gb ram
win 7 32 bit
2x6dsp cards
Running pro tools 9
64 samples buffer

If I load a synth in pro tools and play, I get occasional glitches.
When I move windows around while playing I get alot more crackles..
If I minimize the pro tools window I get no crackles.
The CPU meter is always about 3-5% so that's not an issue.

This also happens without using a synth and just monitoring inputs via pro tools.
I tried disabling all extra graphics stuff but I'm new to win7 and dont know all the secret menus.

Thanks alot!!:)

I had the same symptoms, but running Ableton Live on Windows 7 (64bit). Eventually after ripping my PC apart and rebuilding bit by bit (with no improvement), I discovered that running Live in XP SP3 compatibility mode did the trick. Unlikely you'll have the same result doing that to Pro Tools, but you never know!

Most other suggestions involve disabling various CPU power/speed settings in the BIOS (fairly well documented in other forum posts), which I'd already done before finding this fix.

Thanks alot! I'll try the xp trick.
I already disabled speedstepping and hyperthreading - my last resort Would be to try another graphics card and update bios.

Thanks again and keep the suggestions coming!:)

Did this solve your problem? We have a similar behavior but even if only scope is running...

It was solved by running Windows Update and updateing EVERYTHING. :)
