Scope Pro+pulsarII->no stdm connection - go to sfp 5?

Post by tomylee »

hi there...

I just bought a pulsar2 - still waiting for the allkeys file and the software that is registered with it (*.dev files)

With the package came sfp 5

now should I do the step from 4 to 5 or will I have new bugs, troubles, lost time hazzle, stress etc?

I found out that flexor now works with scope 5, in case I dont have xite, which I do (not have yet)

so any opinions?

btw I installed the pulsar 2 with my scope pro but it wont be accepted by sfp, the driver is ok I installed the same drivers already located in the windows folder that were installed with the scope pro card.

i get a message that the stdm connection was not found, but the connection is just fine...

when I try to run the new pulsar 2 card alone in my system it wont also even start, maybe because of the missing allkeys file?

what should I do in what order now?

thx for any advice

happy painting and god bless ;)

Are you using the first connection? The one closest to the back of the pc.If there is a stdm problem its usual due to no contact.Give the connector a cleaning and connect the cable a few times.

well very strange, i tried both my 2 stdm cables several times, they were not being used for about 2 years now, travelling etc etc, but could they both have gone broken? they look good, feel snappy tough on the stdm connectors of borth cards. I cleaned the contacts on the cards several times, and did what you said.

has it ever happend on the other hand, that a stdm connector electrically got broken on a otherwise fully working card?

both cards are being detected as such, several times I can get into sfp with the new pulsar 2 and it shows all 21dsps...

with pulsar II alone I can run sfp 5 but not sfp 4 because of some key issues I still have..

with my old 2nd gen pro card I can run 4.5 or 4.0 without problems, also there when connected via stdm all dsps show up, but I get the stdm error

now I made these cables myself, but back in 2007 when I had a pulsar and a 1st gen powerpulsar I had connected them via those 2 cables without ever having the stdm error...

very very strange.

what should I try next?

now the seller told me he had a syncplate installed, and did that jumper thing, I will try that now.

Edit:

That http://forums.planetz.com/viewtopic.php?t=23125 jumper thing...

I dont have jumpers around atm, but would anyone suggest to try this? both of my cards have no jumper at place, but it looks like this is for xtc only cards only.

could the error have to do something with the circumstance that I only have 4.5 keys for the powerpulsar, and only 5.0 keys for the pulsar II? actually I did not yet register as I got the card just today, well now yesterday .. ;)

cheers

no, it's probably just bad cables. you might need to try making a new one. you are using the ends of the cables, leaving the middle connector hanging, right? or do these cables just have 2 connectors?

they have 2 connectors and are pretty short, I make some hires pictures.

I had these 2 cables leftover in my electronics box, I dont know if I made others that I sold with my cards when I once sold all of them - yes I sold all of my creamware cards once, just to notice there is no more flexible system than this around ;)

I make some pictures - maybe I used the wrong cables, or maybe the red line is on the wrong side, what do I have to watch out for when making cables? I made them myselb by some description here on plantz, I know I made some that actually worked 2007, but I dont know if I sold them with my cards.

Pictures:

(press the smaller download button with the lighter green at the right side, not the big ones!)

i also tried one cable at a time, they both dont work...very strange.
also is it possible that I my drivers are not installed correctly? I did not really clean any old drivers, i let the soniccore installer install the new soniccore drivers for both cards. in system manager I have no resource or driver conflicts though, and sfp, in case I get into it, shows all dsp, they are just not leoaded because of the stdm issue...

Edit: more pictures, see there is some soldering on 2 pins of the pulsar 2 pci connection, does that have any use there?

http://www.file-upload.net/download-310 ... 2.ZIP.html

I tried the cards on different computer, same behaviour, so probably really just the stdm problem

Do I need a cable with 3 connectors?

edit: now I built one with 3 connectors, still does not work :(

what about the soldering on the 2 last pins there? looks odd, but the preowner told me he used the card in a stdm connection, but there with syncplate...

oh, first success, while the machine was running i switched the stdm 3 connector cable from the 1+3 connected to 1+2 connected...what does THAT mean...it works for right now, changing them again now.

ok 10 mins later: very strange behaviour, works with 1+2 connected, but if i swap just them, so 2+1 connectes as to say, it wont work agai, so the plugs might have suffered from age somehow, very uncommon since those devices are so simple...

got it to work with messing around with stdm setups, but I only have 1 connection so far, is that enough?

yes, it should be fine with one cable.
a couple of the card's contacts look pretty worn. idk if the stdm connector being used is the worn one, but depending on the cable's connector, it might make a difference. the syncplate has nothing to do with your troubles.

i think a new stdm cable is in order....
