Luna2 ,after some minutes of playing midi keyboard,PC crash

Post by Merkury »

This always happened with my Luna2,but now I cannot stand it anymore....i had to disconnect the cable from the keyboard to the soundcard, otherwise after 5 - 10 minutes of playing (either standalone vsts or cubase) the pc freezes and i have to reboot. I tried putting midi filter for midi sensing but no success.Any other ideas would be appreciated.

p.s. happy holidays !

did you check via midi monitor what u receice from midi source
(midi source -> midi monitor (enable realtime) without a midi filter in between )
or route midi source to directly to midi sequencer dest and watch with a midi tool in your DAW

maybe your keyboard produce to much controler messages or so because of a defect knob ( i had this problem once )
to much midi traffic kills also my powerpulsar

thx for your reply,I checked with monitor and never seen anything strange. my keyboard is quite shitty (Casio) but it has always worked fine by itself
i think is more a sfp driver issue :(

no, midi works.
what you're looking for is a constant stream of messages, probably midi clock or active sensing, but it could be a bad cc controller as well. have you tried a different keyboard? have you checked for shared irqs?

well at this point i think I'll have to change the keyboard and try with another one...it's not IRQ,Luna 's got "20" and it's the only one with that number. Also I've had various PCs with this exact board and controller, and they all had this issue ...

Happy new year to all the Pulsarians ! ;)

I recently found out that one of the midi socket on the keyboard is not so stable (moves around) so i pushed the midi jack very firmly into it. I'm pretty sure that it was the problem since i did not have any freeze since then ! :)

BUT I am still getting (non midi) SFP crashes quite often, especially when fiddling with ASIO channels in Cubase or VSThost.
So I'm thinking, maybe I'm doing something wrong with the ASIO modules ?

Could someone check if my project is right please.(Link to JPG of it)

my config

Luna2
WINXP sp2
AMD Phenom 3.11 Ghz
4gb RAM

I even setup windows for hi performance, background services etc...still my Scope software has never been stable :(
If anyone could give me some hints it would be much appreciated.
THANX !

are you changing the type of asio module or the number of channels in Scope while Cubase or your vst host is open? if so, that's your problem....

the asio channels exist when they are in Scope, period.
Cubase must be closed when this happens.
then, in Cubase, you can activate busses for the existing channels.

i guess that's what you're doing, but...
there's no more to it than that. if it doesn't work, then it's either an imporperly setup pc, or bad/cracked/improperly installed software. Scope should be ROCK stable.

have you checked for irq sharing?
go to start\programs\accessories\system tools\system information\hardware resources\confilcts/sharing and tell me if the Scope card is listed and if it is, what is sharing an irq with it...

Irq is 20,so it's not shared.
And i use Cubase Essential 5 (original) and only original software,no cracks.
Well maybe next time i'll document exactly what i did when crashes happen.

Tbh Scope has never be "that" stable with me,i always have little bugs here and there, but i just love my board
