Any of you ever heard the Origin sound or are talking about the VSTi ?
Technical spec is one thing sound is another.
From what we heard so far the Solaris sounds good (but hey, what else would you expect from a teamwork of John Bowen and the SC staff ?).
I never heard the Origin so far.

The only point of comparison I have is the sound I can get from SC VA synths (ASB, NOAH or Scope) compared to other VA synth I have/had (Access Virus A, Clavia Modular G2, Novation KS ...) and cI just prefer the sound I get out of the CW/SC device. I expect the same type of result here.

The Solaris price is now $ 3999

Origin Keyboard is priced $ 2999

So quite the same price range...

Is there any over competitor (there was once the Clavia Modular G2x but not produced anymore).
These are the two only modular synth/sound design approach offered.
Different user interface approach also but both put the strenght on the easy access.

Maybe the Access Virus TI2 or the Clavia Nord Wave but with a more classic synth approach...

Regarding pure DSP spec, the Solaris provides half the DSP power of an Xite-1 / 5 Scope Pro equivalent system.
The Origin provide half the DSP power of a Solaris so the equivalent of 2.5 Scope Pro equivalent system.

I'm talking about the oringinal ( ) Origin sound, not about the (poor) VSTis?
Nothing to do with C|W S|C sound...
After some tests all modules sounds almost the same to me.
Obviously the Origin is better than their software...

I praise them for bringing this to market, even if its 2 1/2 years late.
It won't be in the same league as Solaris, but they made it to market first.
Fortunately for them Solaris keeps getting re designed and re spec'd or they'd be sitting on their first 100 for a long time.

I heard the Origin and its effects are on Par with Scopes.
Probably because their DSP Programmers were chasing Soniccores' Klaus around the shows asking him how he achieved 96k processing, etc...

I wish Arturia well though.
They obviously found lots of suckers that bought those cheezy softsynths which financed their realtime adventures.

I had the opportunity to fiddle with a not-even-quarter-finished Solaris at Frankfurt.
It's a complex thing at first glance and one feels totally lost in the first moment you turn a dial.
But then the items start to reveal one after the other, the logic behind their operation becomes appearant.
There's a learning curve, but it feels natural.
I'd sign to this approach anytime (as I once did with SAW Studio...)
The Arturia looks like the usual menu-'n-messy approach... uninspiring imho.

I would qualify the Solaris rich rather than complex.
The OSC/Filter/Amp layout is "classic" and the function just look easy to reach. The multiple display is a good idea versus doing eveerything with only one...

The origin layout is also logical but the display and it surrounding control elements looks more complex to use.

well, I wrote 'complex at first glance...' to be precise... and that's what it felt.
Knowing the plugin didn't provide any help at all.
So I had to focus on what which section does (according to display values) and from then on it went smoothly.
Of course time was limited, but the 'familiar feeling' didn't take long - and even in that short slice of time I found several very inspiring settings that a 'software only' version simply cannot deliver.
Those display panels on the Solaris are always at their place, the respective content on the Origin 'screen' has to change constantly.
Surely easier for the very first steps but then it will start nagging...

Yep, the marvelous Waldorf Q Phoenix edition for example.

But the final Arturia Origin design is much better than the early blue prototype of it.

From what I read here and there, many people make reference to the last PPG project, the PPG realizer when looking at the Origin.
From what I remember, one of them was ... John Bowen when he saw it for the first time at the Namm .
