i have problems with some of my samsons 12 channel mixer.
some sliders cause distortion when i move them.
also when i turn on the volume slowly.. i some times get instantly big loud volume as i raise the slider.... very disturbing having these small instant explosions on the monitors.
anyway.. i will open the mixer tonight and i will clean with air at first the sliders and all other potentiometers possible. after i plan to use PRF 6-68 and 7-78 sprays.
i was told that i should first apply the 6-68 which is oil free and after the 7-78 which is lubricant cleaner spray.
in fact i am not sure about which is the proper and best procedure i must follow.
opinions please.......
PRF 6-68, 7-78 contact cleaner sprays
Re: PRF 6-68, 7-78 contact cleaner sprays
i'm not familiar with those particular products, but that sounds correct.
Re: PRF 6-68, 7-78 contact cleaner sprays
MAN!!!
i opened the samson mdr1248 and it was not a good idea.
after removing all the screws and knobs and and and... i had to remove the internal plate that all potensiometers are connected.
nightmare....
i finally end up putting back everything and i did the job having the mixer assembled.
at first i threw away all the dust by throwing lots of compressed air.
after i applied the 6-68..... tested for a while.... the results were instant. better response with almost no distortion... but not perfect.
after 10 15 minutes... i applied the 7-78(lubricant spray"oil included")
at first the sliders were a little sticky... tested again... almost perfect with a little imperfections at the sliders ends(basically low volume end..cause high volume does not have audible problems... the low volume and specifficaly at the first ride of the sliders you can hear(if there are) distortion or sudden changes of volume.
after applying some more for the 3d time... at the ends of the sliders i waited without moving the sliders.
FINAL RESULT.
i applied the sprays only to sliders, not to round potensiometers. these do not have any distortion.
now the mixer responds fine without distortion.
the absolute perfection is not achieved because the mixer is a low budget one.
also since i am not an engineer and i do not have big experience, i don't know the results that i would have by using other similar products
a... i remember the cfs contact spray. good one i think as well.
anyway.
now that i can raise the volume without the fear of sudden pops and distortion... i miss something.
is there a way to make these sliders move smoothly like butter???

I'm not familiar with the products you mentioned, I use ones from the DeoxIT range. Their FaderLube F100 works fine for me as a fader lubricant, but it doesn't really sound all that different to the 7-78 you have already.
Re: PRF 6-68, 7-78 contact cleaner sprays
make the faders smoother? replace them with Penny & Giles, maybe...
how do you make a Yugo into a Bentley?

put the little angel statue of the bentley just at the same place on a yugo...

Link us to these products?
I use Deoxit as well (and have something bookmarked from an OT discussion about cleaners but haven't purchased yet.)
Fader 'smoothness' will depend on the fader construction, I use Deoxit's faderlube grease on my DJM600 & other DJ mixers but my Soundtracs prefers a different blend as it's older, made from different materials and has considerably more contact area. I had to order that from a guy in NYC, and lately I've been losing the LED bar meters so am probably going to have to recondition this beast again or just purchase something new. I think though I'd prefer to fix it and mod the pre's, recap things as necessary etc. I might have to tackle some simpler projects first though to get my resoldering techniques in shape.
Also pots I think once cleaned really need to be properly packed with grease to last longterm. Disabling those is a real bear, but I managed to fix every EQ on my board by doing that. The only issues I'm having to date are the faders again, but those were cleaned when I bought this board 6 years ago and are unfortunately not protected by felt by design (another potential improvement.) I have a very dusty house with several animals atm unfortunately (dust comes from the surrounding semi-arid climate & farming communities who are prone to burning and such twice a year.)

Re: PRF 6-68, 7-78 contact cleaner sprays
too much of those products are just as bad or worse than none. the fader is what it is. just use the stuff when the fader is dirty, there's no long term fix for the feel. lots of lube will attract extra dirt and you'll wear the thing out. buy better gear, if it's really that critical.(again, i'm just shooting off my mouth and spouting my opinion. do as you see fit....).
