More I look at the Paca / Pacarana more I want it.. it's like max/msp in a hardware box! Only issue like I've said before is that it needs its own audio interface to do anything.. And it won't send audio directly in and out of a sequencer, only talks to its own "timeline" thing.. which is essentially a simple sequencer. I'm sure the timeline was ahead of its time, but compared to the modern sequencer it's pretty modest..
I'm trying to find a zero latency dsp solution that's not xcite-1 (because it's big).. maybe I should just stick with xcite-1.. I was also looking at the Nord Micromodular.. I used to be big into Nord Modular G1 so I know my way around Nord Mod environment really well. I just need a customizable dsp box that does effects on vocals and other live input. I tried to run it through vst effects at focusrite saffire 6's fastest latency, and it still doesn't feel realtime. (still sounds like elvis mic effect with slapback)
VST is cool for production, but they're crap for live audio processing because of the latency..
any experience with kyma pacarana?
Re: any experience with kyma pacarana?
Iirc the capybara didn't do much in realtime, has that changed with the Paca/Pacarana?

Re: any experience with kyma pacarana?
really? I thought all their stuff just ran through dsp and ran in real time.
Re: any experience with kyma pacarana?
Depends what you want to do. Pacarana & Kyma are truly excellent at processing a single sound stream/instrument and excels at sound construction. The dsp is dedicated to just that particular process/task, it can't multitask, the sounds are either processed in realtime or from the ram or ramdisk, etc. but as the dsp and ram aren't endless, depending on the complexity of what you're doing you'll probably end up running against the limits of realtime processing. This observation could also do with the way I'm using Pacarana at the moment as I'm not the most experienced user and I'm finding better ways of doing things daily.
The modular construction approach is only enhanced with the learning of CapyTalk, after all this is what Kyma is all about. It's a pretty open programming platform (you can implement your own motorola machine code if needed) allowing anything to be added and designed depending upon your abilities. It's well supported too, with the designers actively comming up with new techniques and developments.
The connection and control opportunities are outstanding now Osc support has been implemented. (with a little bit of work you can do all this with Xite too)
All that said it doesn't and can't compare with Xite as they are really two different pieces of kit even though there are small crossovers.
Xite is in a world of its own with all the flexibility it offers, the plethora of quality devices and the multitude of things it can do at once, there really is no equal - give me a stack of Xites, Mod IV and the SDK anyday.
Kyma is a cold mathematical sound sculpturing/processing tool. Endlessly amazing and competent as it is for creating complicated sound structures, the only warmth you get out of it is the warmth you program into it.
After searching for kyma and JohnDunn on this forum I found his reviews to say it all as he is a user of kyma for 10+ yrs now.
Kyma compared to Scope
Is a system like Kyma possible in Scope?

Regarding the Nord Micro Modular - It is surely good without question but it ain't either Pacarana/Kyma or Xite/Scope
