Ignorant Basslines

Post by FrancisHarmany »

Its been a while but the dark electro rocker in me woke up this weekend.

This is all mixed in flstudio. No scope yet but I got some might phat basslines from the basic 3xOSC plugin!
At least I think, I am hoping to get lots of acceptance from my peers here  Seriously, work in progress,
I need todo something with the snare/hat/percussions as they are just one pattern.
But as with most of what I make I am in love with the melodies more :)

I am using the lovely soundcloud:
http://soundcloud.com/franshaarman/fran ... -basslines

I dont think I can embed the player and will not make the song downloable untill its finished!

This is a big sound and another great example of your work
good stuff

Soundcloud is good, I'll use it infuture as it's much better than the method I've been using to showcase my workings (early days for me still)

Cheers

is the pumping intentional? the whole thing is pumping quite hard.

With the bass, you could probably get some more definition by doing an octave unison with a separate track, or maybe even drop one of the osc in the 3xosc (use sin or tri). That'll drop the bass range a bit, and then you can drop the kick range even lower.

I like the structure, great use of flstudio, I couldn't get anything useful when I messed with flstudio..

Pumping was intentional yes! Perhaps a little too much side-chaining. It keeps me in the groove though :P *nods head rhytmicly*

I'll play with your suggestions!! Thanks :)

yo
I wasn't shocked by sidechaining.
But the track would gain from a better mix of the drums.
There is a lack of "ooomph" (peak on 50Hz) on the kick and groove overall. Groove will not come from unquantizing or trying to imitate humans, but from a better balance/mix of the drums (or add some kicks at low volumes to create a groove and make those binary drums jump).
But may be it is intentional like that, but i am sure the rythm can be turning better (it's a french expression, grooves are turning when they are good ;-)
