Scope - the unsung hero
Scope - the unsung hero
UAD have a webzine. Propellerhead have a monthly newsletter emailed. Steinberg have an RSS feed..
How could something like this be done for Scope?

Re: Scope - the unsung hero
S|C has it's newsletter, but since they don't have weekly or even monthly changes, what would be the point of such frequent updates?
Have you tried http://www.planetz.com/phpBB2/rss.php ?

Someone could setup a bot that just sends the same newsletter out month after month

Re: Scope - the unsung hero
Well I never thought it should be a SonicCore webzine, just 'Scope'. Like I've said before on this forum. Leave S|C alone to do thier DSP and Win64 code.
Obviously it would have to be user driven (us). If there were a few collaborators/contributors (both content and technology wise) maybe there could be something. I'd put time into it. But it would have to be 2 pronged attack.
1) For existing users.
2) For non-users. If such Scope webzine existed, I'd get every muso/producer I know ( not many admittedly ) on the list.
The front page on the first edition would probably showcase XITE and the Scope environment and explain exactly why it is so revolutionary and good ! In very basic terminology desinged to grab a potential user's attention within 60 seconds.
If you google 'XITE-1' you get at top of the list a gearslutz forum, some links to S|C website and thats basically it ! And even on these sites, theres no sort of overview that says :
"SCOPE: An Amazing application that lets you join up all your studio devices, hardware and software, in a free form way using the mouse on the screen. On top of this it adds mixers, samplers and synthesizers that run on the special Scope hardware leaving your computers processor free to run your normal composition and sequencing software, in a fully integrated manner"
Lets face it, the more users we can get onto this platform, the better it is for us. I don't want to move to UAD or 100% native. Scope is more than just DSP and devices. Its a GUI driven studio routing environment as well, one that just doesn't have a competitor ( anywhere )....correct me if I'm wrong (??)
Currently the only publicity for Scope is PULLed, but they are in a marketplace where others are using PUSH technology.

Re: Scope - the unsung hero
i'm all for it, but for something like that to work, it takes writers. are you that?
Re: Scope - the unsung hero
I'd give it a shot....enough to put in my own 2 bobs worth and / or collate other contributions into HTML. I'll see if I can whip up a sample in Visual Studio .NET.......
Re: Scope - the unsung hero
sorry, but imo the shotgun approach is a complete waste of effort.
the deal is not about quantity...
And you just got to face the FACT that Scope is by far an easy migration for any professional producer.
This is not entirely SC's fault, there's OS issues and various sequencer paradigm's all pretending to be 'the best', but after all it's just one big mess.
I even find it hard to setup SAW Studio for my own very humble purpose in an efficient way.
Don't even want to think about deadlines...
XITE isn't a Windoze Media Consumer device and will never be.
If you're dealing with that stuff on a base to make your living you cannot simply switch something in or out of whatever is running currently.
If someone has a really big scoring idea how to accomplish THAT, then SC's sales would shoot up like a rocket.
But without that killer app (or rather strategy) people will just nod at the fine technology and say: ...well, but too much time, too complex or whatever
cheers, Tom

Nothing is their fault and they are absolutely perfect at everything they do. I should have listened to the fanboys long ago. If only SC would build computers and a custom OS for us, everything would work nicely.astroman wrote: This is not entirely SC's fault, there's OS issues and various sequencer paradigm's all pretending to be 'the best', but after all it's just one big mess.

Re: Scope - the unsung hero
imho the best way to give them a good dose of Scope is to keep posting .mp3's and screenshots here and on other web pages. The demo music on the S/C webpage are awesome! If a picture's worth a thousand words then what's an mp3 to audio?
That's assuming of course we can keep the flamers to an absolute minimum.

Re: Scope - the unsung hero
I totally agree.braincell wrote: Nothing is their fault and they are absolutely perfect at everything they do. I listened to the fanboys long ago and left the platform as I couldn't figure out how to make my own patches and need my hand held during my sequenced lifespan. If only SC would build computers and a custom OS for us, everything would work nicely.
Once the platform gets a financial boost and can devote more resources we must suffer with its current Snails pace. Some folks came to the brilliant conclusion that adding a second cheap computer was a wise solution. Once you get past that mathematical hurdle of 1 + 1, things become easy.
Bidule and Reaper seem to be the best so far. I look forward to struggling with those since I need an excuse to stop perfroming, and recording.
Its much easier blaming my lack of forward progress on some piece of software.
If I would have learned the 32bit version first before moving to 64bit,I might have been a Contender.
Re: Scope - the unsung hero
My experience here is a bit limited, having only used FrontPage and Visual Studio ASP.NET for Web Authoring. But the UAD Webzine really for the most part is just references to thier website..eg the mag is on the website and the email is just a way of 'pushing' it ( rss? ).yayajohn wrote:imho the best way to give them a good dose of Scope is to keep posting .mp3's and screenshots here and on other web pages. So given the right authoring tool, then I imagine content compositors would have the freedom of combining the writing of new material with the referencing of existing ( eg S|C site demo MP3's, planetz's awesome knowledgebase etc etc etc ).
Are shortcomings of the host platform really a show stopper ? Is UAD gear more 'user-friendly' ? In that case the challenge may be to make the host environment easier to newcomers by the sharing of knowledge about the non-sharing of IRQ's.. (etc etc)...which has already been done in a passive manner ( waiting for questions ) / pull mechanisms ( S|C FAQ etc ), so the question here really seems to be one of leverage....
Anyway as yayajohn says - a picture is worth a thousand words....so if anyone knows of such an authoring tool (html email push) that doesn't cost the earth I'd be interested, I have a domain/site I can push from. Firstly, spose I should check out atom's rss.php link...I think I need to know about rss at least....

dante, most email marketing is done via 3rd parties now for good reason. Maintaining email servers that are whitelisted with major spam filtering software providers & isp's as well as keeping an eye on delivery for you etc. ConstantContact, iContact, Vertical response and several other companies make setting up email lists (including a signup form that u can place on a website etc) very very easy, intentionally easy enough for a secretary to do it (with only basic computing skills.)
You can of course also use wordpress or half a dozen modern CMS packages (or even forums like phpbb) and install 'mass mailer' software that will allow you to more or less do the same thing. The ease of editing is usually up to what the CMS itself provides (Joomla & Drupal have some nice wysiwyg editor plugins like JCE for joomla) and delivery and configuration of your email servers, spf records and etc is up to you still. You'll also have to do all list maintenance more manually than the services above (keep an eye out on delivery issues and bounces.)
If you choose to go the 'do it from my own domain' route I highly recommend a 'beta' or trial period account from a testing service like DNSstuff for testing mx & dns entries. Or you can use some of their competitors who are still in development and offer free results, like http://www.intodns.com/, http://dnssy.com/, http://www.mxtoolbox.com/ and of course most of these sites also offer an IP based blacklist check: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx among other tests. You'll still need to keep an eye on bounces...

SAmple Content - First Mock Up Draft ONLY
Thanks Valis, hopefully I can avoid much of that complexity as my domain hosts ( server101 ) package this functionality with something called 'SendStudio' that could probably handle this, and the content editing as well :
I think first things first, I'll raise some **sample** content on my domain which everyone here can contribute/critique. If it survives that process, then we can worry about delivery....
Cubase, propheads etc all have tutorials available on iTunes, some streaming from uTube...might even try my hand at a simple 'Setting up Scope with Cubase' vid ( if it hasn't been done B4 ? )
OK - SAMPLE CONTENT DONE !!! This is a mock up and some names have been changed as obviously content would be released on approval of involved parties...so this is purely a mock-up to show concept.

Those programs are perfect for some people. Having tried Reaper, I could not live with the limited functions.XITE-1/4LIVE wrote: Bidule and Reaper seem to be the best so far. I look forward to struggling with those since I need an excuse to stop perfroming, and recording.
