Paragraphic multiband compressor

Post by Cochise »

I use a lot Waves C4 paragraphic multiband compressor, often with good results.
Any alternative tool, for Scope environment?

Optimaster is my mastering tool since 2004 for multiband compression.
I like a lot the wizard that aid to obtaina a good point of start (then use your ears to fine adjust...).
My wish is a 5 bands Optimaster from S|C, but sincerely 3 bands are in almost all cases the sufficient number ;)
4PC + Scope 5.0 + no more Xite + 2xScope Pro + 6xPulsarII + 2xLunaII + SDK + a lot of devices (Flexor III & Solaris 4.1 etc.) + Plugiator.

Looks like it isn't available as a single plugin...
I've already got vocodizer and interpole... I wouldn't consider to go for mix 'n ' master pack 2...

Everything you need to know about it is here :

http://www.scopedsp.com/products_multicomp.php

..about 2 DSP -- quote :

"How Much DSP does it takes?

The Multicomp PRO takes 2 DSP the LITE version 1 DSP. Both are included in the package But you must remember : this is a finalizer. You must, mix your song, and then use the Multicomp to enhance and adapt your mix to the media you want : club, radio, hi-fi... It is a non-sense to load the Multicomp Stereo in your project with all your synths and devices. Sometime you will apply it directly at the recoding stage, but most of the time, directly on the final mix. So don't worry about the DSP load! "

But I use it both ways - either in a 'Mastering Only' project, or in a single 'Mix and Master' project.

I'm not one of those that say mastering neccessarily has to be a seperate process. During final mixdown ( to mastered version ) - I'll often tweak individual track volumes / EQ.... but then I'm only a songwriter / hobbyist....:) ... so its just as easy for me to press the 'Wizard' button in Optimaster. In Multicomp I'd solo / tweak each band seperately by ear. A true engineer who knows more about each frequency band and notching / sidechaining etc would no doubt get more out of it than I would...

The Multicomp was one of the very first things I tried after installing Scope 5.0. I copied the DSPLIB and all the other files required over and it just worked. If you cant resolve it, I'll try and make a list of the files involved...

I agree with erminardi - Optimaster wizard is a pretty amazing tool, but I haven't really spent enough time on it to compare just the multiband compression part of it to MultiComp.

that dsplib was highly suspective to failure in earlier versions of Scope (if memory serves me...)
really interesting that it works in Scope 5 (or at least seems to...).

I never really had too many problems with dsplib ( as long as I read the doco & downloaded latest ver etc ). Mind you I was a late adopter ( could have missed the early days/versions ) & the demo versions would have been long wiped from my system and only running full version.

yeah, it's been long time - possibly related to Scope 3 housekeeping of DSP files, as non DaDev devices used to fail.

cheers, Tom

Anyone about Mubaco? I haven't got yet the time to check it.
I really like to use MovEq; just... looks like the version I have here shows wrong values in frequency fields; I mean, if I set a peak or a notch on a certain freq, FFT analysis shows the peak or notch on a shifted frequency value

Mubaco is great. Alot better than optimaster imo. I love the Sound of the comps and saturation ón this device plus i looks great :)
The user interface is a little bit "hidden" though. You have to Press alot of buttons to get to the parameter you want. A more open layout with All the controls available would be Nice..... But now im just being picky :) its a great device!
