Kontakt 4.0
Kontakt 4.0
Anyone seen this from the new batch of Kontakt 4.0 shipments...?
It's am impressive package. For 75 bucks I upgraded to 4.0 and it's a totally proffessional looking case w/ manuals, videos and DVD's.
Too bad the install disc is defective.
What's weird is I installed Player 4.0 again and get the same messages.......
I am slightly nervous because now I have to go record today and instead of using K4 Player, I have to use K2Player which doesn't allow high polyphony on the Pianos...............arrgghh.
So now I am really anxious to go 64bit so I can quit using something stable and get pissed off all day long tweaking instead of playing.
And this is a new 32bit app.................Maybe I will hit the Megabucks and just hire a bunch of fine looking bikini clad roadies and return to a life of hardware.
I'll have my new engineer/managing owner friend drag along his Manley SLAM mastering board as my mixer, the chopped B3 and 147, Solaris and a Korg Oasys 88 ( dirt cheap these days ) and the 480L w/ TC5000 for my effects...............Coolness.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
I bought a Sonic Couture product using Player4. That was my first and last purchase of anything to do with Kontakt, the library barely works without snap, crackle and pop. What a load of bollocks. Never again.
Re: Kontakt 4.0
Yeah but DDR2-800 was fine with Kontakt 2 Player.
If you are using DDR2-800, even on K4Player you will have some difficulty unless you are one of those guys that loves tweaking the DFD settings, etc.
I like my stuff to work fine w/o tweaking.
I bought this 2 months ago and only recieved a shipping/tracking number on July 13th since it was back ordered. They send you an email after taking your money that tells you its a back ordered item.
I have faith in NI actually, their support is proffessional and courteous, the development is a main concern of mine since most developers I prefer are using Kontakt.
I will let you know how things work out once its running. The lossless compression allows large libraries to load quicker, and play better, all on a smaller footprint too.
But I feel like such a Bill Gates, NI, S|C slave these days. If one of them goes under, I could be up Shit Creek w/o a paddle.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
The K4 player is crap.
I just installed K4.1, and it installed and is running OK here.
3rd party libraries are WAY better than K4's included library - and are the ONLY reason I use Kontakt at all, since I much prefer Yellow Tools Independence.
K4 definitely prefers fast RAM and almost needs it's own CPU.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
shoddy programming to take advantage of computer resources that are overkill for most users... it's sad when the new stuff won't do any more work than the old stuff simply because it's too much trouble to properly optimize a product.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
NI has some problems, I have Xite-1, Virus Ti, Monomes, and lots of other USB crap, some only USB1 and it works fine even with audio streaming from the hardware (virus TI) the only one that is really sensitive is the NI maschine (and it has no sound gen in the hardware, its just a surface), "oh its not our fault its cubase fault" except even a little home made monome "molar" does not cause crackles when I press a button, and it even uses a secondary driver program
if i turn off multi core on cubase then maschine works fine, but all my other crap works fine with it turned on.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
Well Maschine was originally intended to be a standalone software. Not that it excuses the issues but shoehorning that into a VSTi is happening mostly because it was promised (imo).
Jimmy, Kontakt is sensitive to several things. One of which is the location & condition of the library, though it looks like the installer failing for you there is the main installer. But it looks to me as if it's seeing an existing installation and having issues removing the files...or it can't find the record of the install that it thinks it found. I've seen stuff like that once or twice with Komplete5 but Komplete6 (aka Kontakt4) has been fine here on Win7, 10.5 & 10.6 (aside from installer issues on OSX with the new reaktor 5.5 beta.)

Re: Kontakt 4.0
Maschine works like a breeze here.... vsti in Cubase mostly (Valis; it wasn't done to run standalone only, but in both mode, standalone AND vsti). Since last cubase update (5.5 which has some issues that makes me want to go back to 5.1) it loads banks much faster than before and you don't have the impression that it is a heavy app anymore (that was a cubase problem in fact). My setup is rather classic, core2duo e8500, asus p5q-e, 4gb Gskill ram (referenced in the mobo manual as compatible), sata drives... but mashine was already working fine in cubase 5.1, saved the long loading time of kits and projects.
I don't use kontakt, only the player with a couple of banks, but it is unused most of the time (the quality of the banks i have is not fantastic, and the latency is too much, it makes everything sound soft and dull).. but i don't have all those sound problems. In fact the heaviest is probably the Kore player: it is one i use a lot, but interferes too much with ram and cause glitches often when used with scope.
I had Jimmy's problem once when reinstalling the driver for maschine. unplugging and repluggin the hardware did the trick (took me several days to find out, still don't understand why)... but as K4 doesn't use any hardware service, it is weird)..... may be delete all registry entries for kontakt and install/register again ? (just an idea, i don't know if that's enough). what is sure is that there no msi package for any NI apps....
you should be more lucky on NI's own forums... moderators are generally quite up to date.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
I did regedit/F3 for a couple of hours and it cleaned things nicely.
Then re installed and figured out that Kontakt 4.0 needs an old install to upgrade from and Kontakt 3.0 while always working fine, and has a serial number as it is registered, doesn't properly activate. So Kontakt 4.0 has nothing to upgrade from.
I will ask for a free copy of NI 4 and return Kontakt 3.0, and the 2 x upgrade 4.0 versions I now have.
The package is excellent and I know Kontakt 4.0 is also a great upgrade as many friends have purchased libraries using the NCW Lossless files and 120GB instruments now take 50GB's on an SSD and use half of the RAM. THis is a great upgrade just becasue of that and the background loading trick which was an old Ensoniq trick from the late 80's.
For anyone who wishes to have the very best String sounds using this technique try LASS Lite from AudioBro. The developer is very talented and has explaining what he's doing as he developes.
I will post back on the results soon I hope.
NI is much better to deal with then Yamaberg or Cakeland.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
NI changed the registration process, and you can register the old products through their website and skip their application as that only works for their newer versions. I installed Komplete v2 and had to do the manual registration on the website, and then komplete v6 upgrade installed just fine over that.
Re: Kontakt 4.0
The Kontakt Player 4.0 will not load at all or the Kontakt 4.0 Upgrade.
Even with new serial numbers for Kontakt 3.0 it will activate and play. But asks for activation when I load any Bidule Project/Template now. So I totally agree they have changed their registrations.
Kontakt 2 Player works perfectly well.
This is after I regedit'd everything, a fresh XP install with all new upgrades from M$....
They must now give me a Kontakt 4.0 copy, screw the crossgrades and upgrades as their new process which incidentally has occured since they went to a 64bit application is the culprit. Welcome to software hell...
Thankfully K2P works actually better now and shows all of the instruments in the browser with their logos. Before it wasn't 100% perfect but the instruments worked for the gigs.
There's no way I can show up at any sessions using my Kontakt stuff now. Since most of these cats have Logic/PTools and VSL/Play instruments I will use theirs, and just use PianoTeq Pro for Uprights and the Wurlitzer. Their Grands are kind of clunky, and the Rhodes stinks. But Uprights and Wurlys' have no equal IMHO.
And throughout this entire debacle, Scope has ZERO re install issues and works as a well coded instrument should.
I really look forward to Kontakt 4.0 though. It's new technologies, especially with the NCW Lossless audio compression and background loading are incredible with LASS. No more Chiggabyte sized junk clogging up the audio pipes.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
If you're trying to run Kontakt 4 (or 4.1?) 64-bit version in XP OS (if I understand you correctly), then try using jBridge in Bidule and see if K4 loads as a 32-bit VSTi.XITE-1/4LIVE wrote:The Kontakt Player 4.0 will not load at all or the Kontakt 4.0 Upgrade.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
K4 32bit XP SP3
The newer upgrades require uninstalations of older version when using their wizard.
I can't even get 3 to be re activated now.
Great way to push things forward.
FIne, give a copy of 4 for free now.
I have spent the better part of 3 weeks waiting for back orders to be filled, second upgrade sent twice, and fresh Xp installs after reg edits.
Enough of this crap.
I am just happy that K2Player still works.

Re: Kontakt 4.0
I use Komplete 5 next to Komplete 6 and while it does install a newer version it doesn't require the older one be removed on either Win7 or OSX here. Perhaps there are issues with the individual installer?
