Unison MVC module with detune?
Unison MVC module with detune?
Im demo'ing Mod IV at the moment and really like the new MVC C with unison detune..
Has anyone else made a similar module for modular?
Ive found an older Unison device but it doesnt work in the same way or have a detune control
Also had a quick read of the Flexor 3 manual but didnt see one

Checking the best CreamWare/SonicCore Modular :
http://www.cwmodular.org/html/midi.html
It just looks like this feature is only available with the Mod IV (one more reason to buy it).
One silly question: how does Unison works ?
Do you "just" had some extra pitch modulated oscillators similarly adjusted ?
Or are there other tricks to achieve the same results ?

Re: Unison MVC module with detune?
hi
its possibel to connect the freq out of mvc to a flexor val monitor and see how the freq. changes with unison on/off and with different pich control levels ?
i dont have mod4 ... im still a Scope v3,5 user
but i think it could only a non constant feq. moduation of the mvc freq. out because the mvc itself is no osc
by the way, my kind of unison in mod 3 is (sounds fat)
"mvc A" freq out to pich modifier B
pitch modifier controlled by a noise generator (picht control ~75%)
freq out of the pich modifier to input of a LP6db Filter (lp can also setuped to have some glide effects
out of LP6DB to OSC1 freq input
second ocs freq in directly from "mvc A"
mix both ocs in a mix2
works for me for fat bass sounds

Re: Unison MVC module with detune?
I tried that but it's visually not relevant. What could really happen with such parameter to the freq signal generated by the MVC?widy wrote:hi

I think I remember Red trying to show us sthg about it when we heard 2 first harmonics mixed together during Modular synthschool courses...
EDIT: an oscilloscope module would be helpful on this one...
Re: Unison MVC module with detune?
osz module
i used always a vst oszi like http://www.pcmusic.org/software/view.ph ... l-Analyzer and
route every signal (frequence , values , audio ) to audo out of the modular to asio out and viusal the values with a vst oszi in my DAW but warning .... don't route the signals to a monitor box .. im some cases this could destroy the monitor box

Re: Unison MVC module with detune?
The MVC C can be achieved using Prowave Modular by Zarg Music.
The retrigger button is crucial for the old style Synth Leads of Yore.
I actually like controllable seperate Oscillator Glide amounts.
Since there's no hit on the DSP using this I can have several little patches for certain chores.
Here's the Fat Bastard patch which uses very little DSP.
I can also get the sounds of the Oberheim OBX and Memorymoog,
Presets can store polyphony amounts, which can also be achieved on Bowens' Prowave Modular also.

Re: Unison MVC module with detune?
Prowave Modular is a module actually as it can be called into a Modular Shell.
It has extensive Detuning features, Legato mode, unison mode and retriggering options.
The MVC C from Mod IV has most of these features.
An example of why Unison Detuning is a great trick.
When we using Oscillator Sync, the Oscillators tuning is used for the effect, so the idea of detuning an Oscillator while syncing is not allowed in a 2 Oscillator patch.
Try moving the fine tuning and you will see what I mean.
But by using 12 vocie polyphony and a unison detune setting of 2 I can get 6 FAT voices and have the Oscillators detuned as they continue to Sync.
I really like using a MIDI CC on the Detune knob and using slight amounts for a truly dynamic effect.
Below is an example where the detuning is sparesly used and the effect is very cool.
I also enjoy adding sequencers and various LFO's that Prowave doesn't have so I can enhance its modulation options. Granular works really well, but I like smoother transitions so I use the Interpolated Control Sequencer, and the BiPhase is really cool for Psuedo Leslie effects as well.

Re: Unison MVC module with detune?
Ahh yes ProWave modular will give me the unison detune MVC
Its more DSP costly but will make do until i get Modular 4
Interesting workaround from Widy, i'll take a look at that patch you posted. Thanks

Re: Unison MVC module with detune?
IIUC, for Unison you can just stack a couple osc in parallel, detune them all slightly (with a fader for modulation, so you can group-detune, aka change unison Width, like on the real thing) and mix them again before the next module (filter?). So the MVC would be a more convenient way to do the same, but it's not like Unison's impossible without the module.
Also Alfonso released a Unison 6 module, which allows unison with oscillator phase caused by the serial nature of the MIDI stream: It sends the same note successively. This module does not allow unison Width control...
