I'm a tree

Post by the19thbear »

Ok. so i had about 36 hours to do this track! ( a school project).
A singer had lyrics and a melody and i did all the rest (mixing, writing, producing etc.)
tell me what you think! its the first time for me to do a RnB-ish song.

Done in reaper+xtc mode.
thanks!

That's impressive vocal mixing. The effects were great, dynamic yet surprising.
At first I thought this wasn't the usual 19thbera stuff but then the Sgt. Pepper kind of sound you captured before happened.
If that wasn't a real Rhodes you have to tell me what Rhodes copy that is. The Tines were very realistic, I haven't found that yet. I have the bark and bells dialed in but not the tine close pic up sound. That had to be a Rhodes.
Whatever school you're going to is surely earning their pay.
Beautiful.

BTW how many breaks during the 36 hour period...?
I ask because my ears get fatigued after 2 hours, and although I wouldn't notice that in my film class we had others evaluate mixing excercises we did where they could actually detect noticable increases in high frequencies. Sounds crazy, but we tend to lose our high freq's after a certain time and hence the bright mix. Also, old rock & rollers with years and years of stage noise tend to mix bright.....We had a guy who was 20 years old and fatigued after 4 1/2 hours and that is supposedly the maximum.

I think she has a Sneaker Pimps quality to her voice...
I have had long studio sessions...fired up the mix the next day & could only to say "What was I thinking?" and start over...

I like it a lot.

How much of what we're hearing is Scope?

Hi!
thanks alot for the positive comments!

I had ALOT of breaks. sometimes i would only be in the studio for 2 hours.
But most of the time i was there about 4 hours in a row. ( i have a 4months old gorgious baby boy taking my time:)
- and yes JV - i get really "tired ears" after about 2 hours as well! In an ideal situation i would have a 5-10 min. break every hour. But sometimes i just want to continue because of all the ideas i sometimes get:)

-and the rhodes was mr ray 73 - A FREE RHODES! by soundfonts.it
it didnt sound quite right so i put it through liquidsonics conv.reverb - another freebie!
I dont remember what impulse i put it through, but if you want to, i could email you the impulse!

I would say 30% of what you are hearing is scope.
Alot of PEQ's, vinco's, couple of graphEQ's, Griesverb and some delays.

I used scope plugins and the plugins that come with reaper and the rest is 100% freeware!
(i think you can get alot of quality instruments/vsts for free... check out bootsy's plugins, soundfonts.it, and stillwell - especieally the "major tom" plug! (not free but some are already included in reaper)

-and by the way..just got a duende that i cant wait to test on a new project i'm doing soon!(so i now have a spare 6dsp and 3 dsp card...anybody???;)

Fabfilter for synths, and sampletron for strings.

Hey, and by the way! let me know if any of you need mixes or songs made;)

THakns again for the comments and keep em´coming!

I going to download that and blend those Tines.
They sound really good.
Well every Rhodes, just like a B3 had a different sound.
Mr. Ray made me miss mine as I had the ppp Bellish tone, mf Tines and the sfz Bark.
I hear 2 out of 3 on the Mr. Ray.
Add that to my Rhodes body and I should be happy.

Thanks for the tip.
